Jay Georgiou neglected to realise his victims were still communicating online over Xbox.

As reported by The Argus, on 1st April shortly before 5pm, 19 year old Jay Georgiou and an unidentified assailant broke into the flat of three men in Tenterden Close, Eastbourne. The pair of crooks, who were packing heat, tied up the residents and demanded drugs and money.

At one point Georgiou even took a call from his probation officer to discuss a missed appointment.

The victims must have kept quiet during this important phone call, but there was one important detail the criminals omitted: the residents had been playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 online with a friend in Brighton at the time of the incident. The remote friend was able to hear everything over voice chat.

This Brighton-based pal then contacted the authorities, who proceeded to arrest Georgiou in Milfoil Drive, Eastbourne, less than two hours after the burglary.

The other assailant is still at large, but thought to be a white male between the ages of 20 and 25 with ginger hair. He was wearing a ski mask or balaclava at the time of the incident.

Georgiou was sentenced to eight years in prison and ordered to pay 120 in damages.
