Ubisoft and TrackMania dev announce ShootMania Storm

Ubisoft and TrackMania developer Nadeo have announced a new game called ShootMania Storm.

No those aren't game graphics.

Well, we say new, but Ubisoft was banging on about ShootMania as long ago as 2010.

ShootMania's an online multiplayer FPS for PC. Nadeo apparently wants to do to the FPS genre with ShootMania what it did to the driving genre with TrackMania.

And what is that? A "unique competitive spirit and a sense of fun", according to the press release. But there's no mention of puzzling elements.

ShootMania will also have "extensive" map editing capabilities, and the ManiaPlanet platform through which to share your creations.

A ShootMania open beta is scheduled for "the coming months", which sounds messy.

    Enjoyed the Trackmania games a lot, so I hope this will be good to. I'm also looking forward to Questmania.

    @Subdominator Trackmania 2 has sold millions according to Nadeo, you have no idea what you're talking about.

    How is Blur anything like Shootmania? The latter is a creator-driven shooter while the former is a bog-standard kart racer.

    The genre is the same. Cars with guns. It's been dead for ages and everybody that tried to bring it back is done. It killed Black Rock, it killed Bizarre, it probably killed Eat, Sleep, Play (the Twisted Metal studio, its founder David Jaffe quit the studio already to work on social games). It killed Rage Multiplayer. You can't make money with this sort of game anymore.
    Um...Where exactly does it say ShootMania is cars with guns? Unless there's some new definition of FPS now that I am currently unaware of?

    They need to release Trackmania 2 on places other than their own website. I am still massively addicted to it and play it a lot, but it needs more exposure to get more players. Stick it on Steam with a price drop and people will lap it up. (is that almost a pun?)

    Anyway, I am really integued by Shootmania

    Why cant they put Trackmania on XBLA, think it would be/do great (with 800 msp price).
