Resistance: Burning Skies PS Vita release date

The first ever portable dual-analogue stick FPS, apparently.

chimera

Talking of Chimera - do you remember the early '90s TV series of the same name?

Sony's smacked a 30th May release date on Vita shooter Resistance: Burning Skies.

That translates to a Wednesday, which isn't a day games are typically released in the UK. More likely is a UK arrival that Friday, 1st June. Sony is checking this for us now.

Nihilistic Software is making Burning Skies for Vita, and Sony's proud of this being "the first ever" FPS on a portable device.

It's new entry in the series and takes place in 1951, as the ugly Chimeran aliens invade East Coast America. You, as fireman Tom Riley, will need to save the day.

Resistance on PS3 creator Insomniac Games has left the series behind to pursue multi-platform pastures new, incidentally - which isn't to say Sony will put the series to bed.

I assumed this was a while off, glad to see it's only a couple of months after launch.

Yeh, will be a good sighter on how FPS's play on the vita. If its a success Fallout, Bioshock and probably COD will make a show

I thought that said "the ugly Chinamen" for a second there. I almost did a double take.

@cjb_bjc bioshock and cod are already confirmed

This is actually quite an important game for the Vita. If it proves that twin-stick FPS's can run smoothly on the system (which i have no doubt it will) then i think the anticipation for Call of Duty and Bioshock will go through the roof.

    Roll on the 22nd!

After really enjoying Resistance 3, hopefully this can carry on the same high quality. I'm especially interested to see where the plot goes, as the end of R3 was effectively pretty final.

@cjb_bjc CoD will be making a show.
  • DSR3 #8 3 months ago

@Triggerhappytel, This game takes place before R2 and after RFOM

If this works, ill buy one. Don't hold much hope for cod online via 3g though!

I would have thought the May 30th release is so the physical version can coincide with the digital release on the playstation store. Aren't all vita games going to follow this, i.e. Unit 13 on the 7th of March.

Great timing. Got a weeks holiday booked for June 1st.....sorry kids, but you're gonna have to bury yourselves in the sand, whilst I shoot chinamen!

    @Triggerhappytel & @DSR3

This game probably takes place at the same time as Resistance: Retribution but just across The Pond. Both games are set in 1951 as far as I know.

Meh. I'll wait for KillzOne Vita.

Fuck that Chimera TV series scared the absolute shite out of me...

Resistance 3 is an excellent FPS, MP is also really good fun, Great Comms, no lag, great maps, top weapons, perks etc, it makes a mockery of some high profile games out there and yet, it pretty much flopped compared with those 'other' games, sad sad sad !!

I'm looking at getting a Vita for my Birthday in July. This will be the first on the list...! Any news on Killzone...? It was definitely in the Vita launch montage...

When I get my Vita this is definitely on the list to buy.

"Sony's proud of this being "the first ever" FPS on a portable device."

I've already seen the article that "the first ever" links to so I know what EG were getting at, but surely that could have been worded a bit better...

The Sony article says: "the first ever dual-analog FPS game on a portable device", which I reckon is probably true?

Anyway, I hope the final game is a butter smooth 30fps. Glad to hear it's a little while off yet, so they can polish the game proper. Hopefully it ends up decent.

I'm a little worried about this.

Loved what they did with Resistance 3, scrapped regenerating health which made dying a genuine rather than cheap possibility, loads of great and varied weapons, weapon progression without going RPG overboard and it's not a dull military shooter.

However a different developer with the "first portable FPS" label hanging over them, it's a big responsibility and the Vita is depending on them.

I just really hope it's not been rushed.
