It launches as a boxed product in shops and as a download. It's already available to pre-order from the Ubishop for £19.99.

    Well fuuuuuuck me, that's a pleasant surprise

    Although..."Ubisoft"...
  • FatalHybrid #3 4 weeks ago

    £19.99? That's pretty steep. Maybe I'm spoiled by the absolutely monumental variety on Steam from Indie devs but they offer games of this calibre and polish for under £10. I'm a fan of Rayman but I'm not sure if I can pay £5-£10 more than the current going rate for a game like this just because it's Rayman.. Sorry UbiSoft.
  • dirtysteve #4 4 weeks ago

    Rayman Origins? Is it a gritty reboot?
  • Canyarion #5 4 weeks ago

    I saw this for €30 in the Netherlands. I will probably wait until the price drops a little bit more.

    Oh and I still haven't played Donkey Kong Country Returns...
  • neo7685 #6 4 weeks ago

    So what DRM will it use?
  • Demiath #7 4 weeks ago

    I've been waiting for this announcement for quite some time. I do have PS3/Xbox 360 but since I rarely use them anymore a PC version which I can quickly launch from Steam would be absolutely perfect, both in terms of convenience and in regards to what kind of game it is.

  • Collymilad #9 4 weeks ago

    Seriously £19.99 is steep for this?

    Jesus. Developers really are fucked if that's the dominant attitude with PC gamers.

    £19.99 steep? For probably the best 2D platformer in a decade?

    Steep?!
  • Timotei #11 4 weeks ago

  • smelly #12 4 weeks ago

    Anything that gets more people playing this great game is a good thing.

    As for the 19.99 comment being too steep above.. This game will last you at least 10 times longer than the single player in a 50 quid fps game... Do the math you moron.
  • smelly #13 4 weeks ago

    DRM free?

    Well that's that then.. no buggers going to buy it... Prediction now, 1000 sales tops, but a few million torrent seeds.
  • FatalHybrid #14 4 weeks ago

    @Collymilad I stated it was steep in comparison to many other games like this on PC. Though maybe it was the wrong word to use.. It did show me how quick people are to judge. One guy up there even called me a disgrace.. I spend more in a month on games than many spend in a year, if that's a disgrace to gaming I don't know what that makes everyone else.
  • Malek86 #15 4 weeks ago

    This is the best news of the month.
  • FatalHybrid #16 4 weeks ago

    @smelly Another idiot quick to judge.. You don't know me. I bought a good 300 games last year and out of that about 10 were FPS titles and none of them were the typical MW3 and BF3. How does considering £19.99 steep in comparison to other titles like this make me an FPS playing moron? Logic online baffles me.
  • PcPlasticfuzz #17 4 weeks ago

    I'd recommend this to anyone who loves platform games or is just sick of shooting things. It looks beautiful and plays superbly on PS3. The biggest compliment I can pay it that I think it's better than Donkey Kong Country Returns.
  • smelly #18 4 weeks ago

    >stated it was steep in comparison to many other games like this on PC

    Obviously you know of many more high quality platformers on the pc than i do... Last decent one i remember was jazz jackrabbit about 15 years ago.
  • bad09 #19 4 weeks ago

    Oooh what great news this new Rayman looks beautiful and DRM free to \o/ I'll be there on the 30th!

    Is this really an Ubi story? Good and positive news on PC isn't normally their strong point, there's a catch somewhere I know it, deadly scorpions in the box or something.

    I kid good job Ubi you really are turning it around...well apart from that anno DRM mess but you're almost back to a good company keep going! :)
  • uninspiredcup #20 4 weeks ago

    Go fuckyourself Ubisoft.
    French fucks. Pc gaming would be better without your pioson infectecting it.
  • smelly #21 4 weeks ago

    >How does considering £19.99 steep in comparison to other titles like this make me an FPS playing moron?

    Other titles like this? Other quality 2d platformers? You mean mario - $50? Or Sonic - $50?

    Or are you comparing it to shit 2d platformers?
  • Baleoce #22 4 weeks ago

    Don't mistake Hybrids view as the consensus of PC gamers. That is a quality price for an amazing game. And those that are really strapped for cash know how Steam works. They'll have a sale opportunity at some point during the year.
  • bad09 #23 4 weeks ago

    @uninspiredcup

    Apart from the Anno mess (what the hell were they thinking!) they are seriously improving to be fair. The launcher thing is still rubbish and not needed but it no longer gets in the way of your game even if you can't log in to their really crappy servers (which happens a lot from what I can see) thanks to the offline mode. They deny uplay play stuff but that's mostly pointless crap anyway.

    Hell Brotherhood I was able to play even though I couldn't get on to their crap servers for the first time authentication.

  • Timotei #24 4 weeks ago

    @uninspiredcup Pioson? I assume that's French.
  • smelly #25 4 weeks ago

    If i didnt already have this on wii - the only thing which would put me off playing this on pc would be the lack of a decent pad to play it on (i'd have to go out and buy a 360 controller)
  • Collymilad #26 4 weeks ago

    @FatalHybrid

    Fair enough. I judge games on what I think they're worth individually, not by what they cost compared to similar games.
  • Sharzam #27 4 weeks ago

    There is one small issue;

    This is an Ubisoft game.
  • smelly #28 4 weeks ago

    WHAT SIMILAR GAMES?!?!?

    Im obviously totally unaware of the masses of really high quality high budget 2d platfomers on the pc!!!???
  • Collymilad #29 4 weeks ago

    @smelly

    So am I, but I haven't gamed on PC for a while so I can't say.

    I just meant in general.
  • smelly #30 4 weeks ago

    @Collymilad : Even if you factor in consoles - i can only think of two or three other 2d platformers of the same budget/quality of rayman origins.. and they all cost upwards of 50 quid....
  • greenfanguy #31 4 weeks ago

    Gah, really? I JUST ordered this for ps3 (for the same price) because I thought it wasn't coming to pc, and it's too late to cancel. I'd much rather have this on pc. >_<
  • Deadly_Spike #32 4 weeks ago

    Well I spent £40 on this title and can genuinely say I got more pure satisfaction and enjoyment out of it than most games last year. For PC gamers to have it at launch for £20 is a bargain and should be experienced by as many people as possible. Games like this are a breath of fresh air amongst all the usual shooter/sports/dance titles that dominate the market. I hope this gets the support it deserves so that more games like this get made and end up being enjoyed on my console.
  • md99 #33 4 weeks ago

    Oooh nice one. 1920 x 1200 resolution ftw!
  • arcam #34 4 weeks ago

    This only sold 50,000 in the first month across all console platforms.

    If the PC version of a platformer can outsell the consoles I think the world might stop turning. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
  • PcPlasticfuzz #35 4 weeks ago

    @greenfanguy It's superb on PS3 mate don't worry.
  • smelly #36 4 weeks ago

    >f the PC version of a platformer can outsell the console

    No fear of that happening - it doesnt have DRM.
  • arcam #37 4 weeks ago

    @smelly You already posted that once, but I suspect you already know it has little basis in reality. There's absolutely no evidence (that I know of - feel free to point some out)that putting DRM on the game would significantly increase its sales. I think you're just trying to be contrary.
  • bad09 #38 4 weeks ago

    Smelly you talk so much crap, Witcher 2 was DRM free and sold 1.5 million (maybe more now). DRM free won't stop it selling I think the rather broken relationship Ubi has with PC gamers will do more damage to sales.

    If it didn't do well over on the consoles I suspect Ubi chose, rather out of character, the DRM free route to ensure it WOULD be bought on PC to earn some money.
  • arcam #39 4 weeks ago

    @bad09 Exactly. I suspect the reason they've chosen to skip DRM on this title rather than all the others is because they really, really need some good sales for this game, and dropping DRM is one way to try and increase the chances of that happening.
  • PeacockDreams #40 4 weeks ago

    No wonder people dont want to release stuff for the PC when people moan at £19.99 as too steep!

    Tight arse mongs
  • smelly #41 4 weeks ago

    >that putting DRM on the game would significantly increase its sales.

    I didnt say DRM increased sales.. I'm saying lack of drm will increase piracy.

    Lets see the first weeks/months sales figures.. then take a trip to the torrent sites and see which outnumber which....
  • arcam #42 4 weeks ago

    @smelly

    No, you were talking about sales figures, not piracy figures. It's quite obvious you were saying the lack of DRM would cause it to sell fewer copies.

    DRM free? no buggers going to buy it... Prediction now, 1000 sales tops

    No fear of that happening [outselling consoles] - it doesnt have DRM
    Edited by 1 at 26/01/12 @ 19:22
  • bad09 #43 4 weeks ago

    @smelly

    you do know DRM does extremely little to stop piracy don't you? those torrent figures would probably be the same with DRM, in fact there is already evidence that DRM INCREASES piracy not reduces it, kinda why customers know it's pointless and don't see a use in it and don't like it as it only affects them.

    Witcher 2 was DRM free and torrented something like 4-5 million times apparently. Even though that was an extremely rough guess by CDPR and others say their method to work it out was flawed and over estimated the number it was still a good sales to torrents ratio according to them.

    Fuck just picked this up for £25 on xbox at the weekend because I didn't think they'd be a pc version :(

    Doesn't matter though, I've not had this this much fun playing a game with the better half as far as I can remember. It's beautiful and plays really well. Pc only guys, go get this ASAP!

    Good. This game needs to have as broad an audience as possible.

    I have the game on PS3 and absolutely love it! I absolutely hate it as well - in some teeth-grittingly frustatingly difficult sections, followed by a rush of adrenaline when said difficult section is completed.

    Fantastic and beautiful game.
  • smelly #47 4 weeks ago

    >lack of DRM would cause it to sell fewer copies.

    Yes i am saying that... I hope i'm proved wrong, because it's a great game which deserves to do well...

    But I also know what pc gamers are like...
  • smelly #48 4 weeks ago

    >you do know DRM does extremely little to stop piracy don't you?

    yeah yeah yeah.. says the pirates..

    Im saying lack of drm increases piracy and decreases sales... But this isnt a piracy debate... I know you're going to rush off and pirate it regardless while telling me how evil drm is... So it makes bugger all difference to me.

    I'm just saying that lack of drm, is a crying shame as this game deserves to sell well.
  • bad09 #49 4 weeks ago

    Wait so I call smelly out on the absolute bollocks he is talking so he calls me a pirate? Haha what a complete and utter prat. :)

    (I buy my games fool!)

  • arcam #50 4 weeks ago

    @smelly So you're not saying DRM increases sales, but you are saying lack of DRM reduces sales? I think you need to refine your opinion a bit and work out what you really think, because that makes no sense at all.

    If you just want to say piracy sucks, fair enough, but your arguments leave a lot to be desired.

    Im not arguing.. im just saying it's a shame...
  • Darren #52 4 weeks ago

    I can't believe people are griping about the £19.99 price; while not exactly cheap, it's a tenner less than the RRP for most PC gamers and retailers will likely sell it for a few quid less. And the retail version has no DRM at all. Will definitely be buying it myself.
  • bad09 #53 4 weeks ago

    FYI If you pre-oder on Ubi's site your get Rayman 2 for free peeps!

    I'm having it, my first pre-order since play.com messed up my AvP order a few years back. See what no DRM does Ubi?
  • Matthew_Hornet #54 4 weeks ago

    Please sweet Jesus up on high, let it not have the UbiDRM.

    edit: NO DRM OMG OMG OMGWTFBBQ

    @smelly Thousand sales and million seeds? You seem to be something of a PC gamer, so you really can't take refuge in ignorance for that dumb statement.
  • smelly #56 4 weeks ago

    >Pc only guys, go get this ASAP!

    Im sure they will be in such as rush to get it ASAP.. that they'll get it before its even in the shops....
  • UncleLou #57 4 weeks ago

    Well, great. Announcement a bit earlier, and I could have saved myself from buying it for the PS3 where it has an expiration date corresponding to my PS3's expectancy of life. :-/
  • UncleLou #58 4 weeks ago

    >f the PC version of a platformer can outsell the console

    No fear of that happening - it doesnt have DRM.

    DRM or not, won't be too hard to outsell the 5 copies it sold on the consoles.
  • bad09 #59 4 weeks ago

    I wonder why this did quite poor on consoles anyway? It looks beautiful and everyone who has played it says it's fantastic so what gives?
  • cowell #60 4 weeks ago

    @bad09 Timing of the release, it was always going to struggle coming out in November.

    It's sold over 120,000 just in the UK now at around 20 quid.
  • bad09 #61 4 weeks ago

    @cowell

    ah I see, the old "let's all cram every release into a month or 2 at the end of the year" problem. They never learn do they.
  • Abdu@EG #62 4 weeks ago

    I'll buy it from some torrent site.
  • Matthew_Hornet #63 4 weeks ago

    I'm seriously going to do an evil laugh when the PC sales kick the console sales' ass, like they always do for these quirky games, like they did for Bastion and Super Meat Boy etc. And then I'm never going to let you naysayers forget it :-)
  • DrMGinius #64 4 weeks ago

    Well let's hope it comes out before SOPA! Naaah I'm a joke.

    Buy games kids, it doesn't hurt.
