Xbox Live EA sale deals detailed

Dead Space 2! Mass Effect 2! Dragon Age 2! NFS!

Third party behemoth EA has discounted dozens of games and game add-ons this week on Xbox Live.

Savings include half price DLC for last year's Dragon Age 2, Dead Space 2 and 2010's top Need for Speed offering Hot Pursuit.

For those who've missed the sale until now, there's still plenty of time to take advantage: the price reductions last until next Monday.

Burnout developer Criterion's left-field spin-off Burnout Crash is 50 per cent off, as are mech shooter Gatling Gears and cel-shaded side-scroller Shank.

Arrival, the final slice of Mass Effect 2 DLC, also comes half price, ahead of Mass Effect 3's March release.

The full list of offers lies below.

Dead Space 2: Severed.

EG ... always up to date with the latest news.
  • Monkey_Puncher #2 5 months ago

Gatling Gears is rather fun, specially for 400 ms points.
  • Lexx87 #3 5 months ago

You should mention in the article that the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit download does not contain the online pass.

This also needs to be bought seperatley, even though you are buying the game new.

    Which is ridiculous.
  • telboy007 #4 5 months ago

@Lexx87 Buying a game online... that doesn't let you play online. It is marketing genius!
  • evild_edd #5 5 months ago

I can't recommend Risk Factions enough. If you like turn-based strategy, of course (it is Risk, after all!)
  • Whitster #6 5 months ago

@Lexx87 Yeah not including the content in the digital versions is stupid, theres no way to buy it second hand!
  • lucky_jim #7 5 months ago

It's things like this that make me dread a download-only future for consoles. I first heard about the EA Games on Demand problem a while ago now, I would have expected them to have sorted it by now. That they haven't can only mean they don't see it as a problem, and it is in fact deliberate. Once consoles are download-only we'll probably have to pay £60 for each game with no hope of any price drop ever, then another £20 if we want to play it online.

    Gatling Gears will be mine.

    @lucky_jim

If publishers actually tried that their profits would drop dramatically. They'd soon work out that the games industry is driven by discounting - however I'm sure they know that already.
  • evild_edd #10 5 months ago

@lucky_jim: I agree that download only is a worry from a competition stand point, but I think you're underestimating how much of a factor consumer demand will play. Ultimately, if every game cost £60 to play with no second hand market, fewer games would be sold and played.

There's definitely sweet-spots for game prices, and these depend on the game in question. If you're looking for a great example then just look to XBLA - a number of big scale recent titles are now being released at 800 msp (Amy, Beyond Good & Evil, Radiant Silvergun) despite it looking like we were heading towards a 1,200 mps standard.

I think (and hope) we'll eventually see a greater variation in pricing with download selling, based on numerous factors from development cost right through to developers charging lower amounts for riskier, more innovative titles.

@Lexx87 EA's Game on Demand games do not ship with Online Pass included. That is, unfortunately, their standard practice.

Especially frustrating as EA have removed the game's Online Pass from the Marketplace.
  • Lexx87 #12 5 months ago

    You what?

You mean even if you buy the game from GoD, you can't ever play it online?

    What.

That makes my head want to explode.
  • TeaFiend #13 5 months ago

But the second hand sale is eliminated, what this does not make sense. WHY?
  • NotSoSlim #14 5 months ago

No online pass? Not a PSN vs Live pissing contest but i bought Hot Pursuit on  PSN months ago for a tenner and it included the pass.

Weird and ridiculous its not included
  • WadiumArcadium #15 5 months ago

I would get Arrival but I'm a hundred points short.
  • Jigster1 #16 5 months ago

Might get Shank! Anyone know how long it is?
  • skowhegan Verified Staff Writer, Eurogamer Network #17 5 months ago

@Lexx87 Looking into this with EA now - you may still be able to buy through the in-game shop, even though its not on Marketplace. Will update when I find out for sure.
  • TheJuriel #18 5 months ago

No online pass included? What the fuck
  • Lexx87 #19 5 months ago

    @skowhegan

Can you ask them who made the ridiculous decision to not include the online pass within a GoD download? Seeing as it's a new game and everything.
  • arcam #20 5 months ago

I have said before, Online Pass has gone way beyond the second hand market. It's just another way of getting long-tail revenue, like DLC, subscriptions or Season Pass.
  • Phantom_Dynamite #21 5 months ago

Think I'm gonna get the Arrival, then I can do my paragon Insane run with all dlc before ME3 lands.
  • kassmageant #22 5 months ago

yeah, i can confirm it, i bought bad company 2 on GoD, and had the same problem, no vip code, gave me a lesson to NOT buy games that have any sort of online pass.

    edit:

also thanks for showing me arrival DLC on picture in dashboard and saying that it's price is reduced... only to find out that it's unavaliable in my lovely poland. nice of you EA.

Deliberately held onto my copy of Dead Space 2 to play Severed. Now is the time to buy I guess.

Cheers for the heads up. Downloading now
  • andywilkie35 #26 5 months ago

Really glad I bought Burnout Crash for the full price last week. Oh no wait.
  • Trinod #27 5 months ago

Why don't they ever put the NFS Shift 2 DLC on sale!!!!!!
  • CARL05 #28 5 months ago

@Lexx87 Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea and almost bought it yesterday.
Thought it was too good to be true since it is the same price new as in shops.
  • Darth_Flibble #29 5 months ago

Completely agree with Lucky Jim, very much against digital downloads only future on consoles as the gamer is going to fucked over hard. Call of duty could of been £60 download only and don't it would of made a difference to most.

For some reason Halo reach is £49.99, I don't believe for a second its "evil Game" or any other retailer like play forcing them to do that. Its because they can, the same way EA can not included online pass in a GoD title or charge 1200 points for a game that should be 800
  • talideon #30 5 months ago

All nice, but still... Zuma?! Who exactly doesn't already own a copy of Zuma? I seem to remember it being bundled as a free game with every Xbox, along with all the arcade demos.
  • skowhegan Verified Staff Writer, Eurogamer Network #31 5 months ago

@Lexx87 So yes, just to confirm, you are still able to buy the Online Pass via the in-game shop, even though its not on Marketplace. The Online Pass not coming with the digital copy is just EA's standard.
