DICE reveals Battlefield 3 beta stats

More than 8 million players.

The Battlefield 3 open beta was played by over 8 million people, developer DICE has revealed.

The exact number is 8,125,310 people, according to the Battlefield blog.

The longest headshot recorded during the Battlefield 3 open beta was 635.6 metres.

Around 47 billion shots were fired in total and 1.5 billion kills registered.

Everyone who played Assault contributed 2.2 billion regenerated health; 21 million M-COM stations were destroyed; and 19 million people lost their dog tags at the end of a knife.

How the Battlefield 3 open beta statistics break down across PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 wasn't mentioned.

"Around 47 billion shots were fired in total and 1.5 billion kills registered."

46 billion of those shots and 1 of those kills were mine. ^_^

That's not a great hit / death ratio. Come on the world, sort it out.

My longest headshot was 63 meters, so I guess not that impressive then.

What's the preorders made/preorders cancelled ratio as a direct result of the 'beta'? What odds will Ladbrokes give that the launch is STILL going to be a shambles with 'unanticipated demand overloading the servers'?

    "contributed 2.2 billion regenerated health".

    That statement doesn't mean anything.

Any mention of the number of tents belonging to all those campers?

    Felt like Glastonbury at times

The lag was so bad here in Australia that most of my bullets are still in the air to this day.

    That's some crap hit detection

What is this Battlefield you speak of?

Never heard of it - maybe Eurogamer should run some ad's for it? I mean, I'd really like to see what all the fuss is about.

Perhaps you could advertise the game on every single video published on the website?

With regards to the shot/death ratio, it's probably due to some people actually working as a team and laying down suppressive fire.

8 million simpletons moaning "it's broken" whilst failing to understand the purpose of a beta.

Anyone else want to see a vid of the 635.6 metre headshot?
  • geeza2020 #13 7 months ago

Yeah, its always really shit isnt it when you get given a beta to play completely free of charge and the developers have the front to try and use it to stress test the servers rather than give you a full working copy of the game and everything you ever wanted ever since mummy said you couldnt have that Gamecube game when you were a little girl.

    IT WAS A BETA

    Haha someone's a sore loser.

What a game. It really is in another league compared to COD

I don't like how much emphasis is put on the longest headshot statistic. Don't encourage sniper twats who sit miles away from the action spending all match getting one or two kills rather than helping with the objective.

I played it once and got stuck in a hole then the sound went and it was making this horrible noise. Was the most 'beta' beta I have ever tried.
  • GordonJ #18 7 months ago

Heard this was just Metro stats, as I've seen loads of Caspian Border youtube videos with 900+ metre headshots.

All this stress test the server rubbish - I just dont get it, explain it to me please.

EA run a server for Battfield BC2, they ran it since launch, so they run a a server and know how stressed it was on day 1 and day 20....BFBC2 has sole 9 million, so they should know already stress levels vs users vs server capacity.

If you think about it its the only valid excuse to say when putting out a very buggy beta - Say we are testing this or that code or looking for bugs would be embarrassing as they were so obvious to anyone playing the game for more than an hour.

EA fucked up and stress test is damage control. I for one waiting for reviews before buying.

Just because they know how Bad Company 2's servers will behave when 10 million people are connected, doesn't mean they know how BF3's servers will behave when 10 million people are connected. It's a different game, with different server files, and so needs to be tested separately.

edit: in other words, they're not testing to see how stressed it gets, but how the new software reacts when under that stress.

All the beta did was convince me to prolong buying it until a few patches down the line.

I was the one that downloaded it, loaded the options screen after origin pissed about for 5 minutes saying it didn't exist, then got bored and uninstalled.

Okay, so it might have been a stress test, but they would know that number of players, total bandwidth, etc beforehand. The beta was put out as a marketing ploy against MW3 and I'm afraid it failed completely. Poor lag, graphically pushing things beyond what they should be, not rewarding enough.

Where do you get this nonsense?
  • cherryuk #25 7 months ago

I've been playing BF2 for a few weeks and it's no perfect game, freezes and walking around some objects feel clumsy. I hope they get to grips with gravity, everything feels slightly floaty and not loud as war should be.

    Thoughts Karl………?
