Witcher 2 1.1 patch details, date

Plus a second patch next week.

CD Projekt has revealed details of the first major The Witcher 2 update, Patch 1.1.

The plan is to release these changes this evening, as well as a second patch next week.

All versions of the game - both retail and digital - will get the patch. Only the Russian version will be incompatible. CDP is aware of the problems in the Russian version and talking with 1C about "possible solutions".

"Internal tests of Patch 1.1 are well under way. Our current target is to release it this evening," CDP told Eurogamer.

"Please note that although we are doing our best to have it ready by then, the time still may change in order to be completely sure that the patch will function properly. This is our primary concern since there are significant changes and upgrades that will affect many users."

A summary of changes can be found below. A full itty-bitty breakdown will be offered when the patch goes live.

"If you have experienced any issues that are not on the list, please don't worry," offered CDP. "We have already started working on the next patch, which will address other difficulties and bugs, including those related to specific hardware set-ups; e.g.. Logitech g35. You may expect this second patch to be ready next week."

Patch 1.1

  • Simpler and more reliable game installation and activation. Details to be revealed soon.
  • Fixed the free Troll Trouble DLC download. It is now included n the patch so there's no need to download and install it separately.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented some users from downloading other free DLCs (the ones given out with some pre-orders, special promotions, etc). The launcher now properly refreshes the list of available DLCs and allows for installation.
  • Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.
  • Fixed random crashes occurring on some systems, especially after saving and loading saves.
  • Key mapping – allows the arrow and number keys to be used for movement.
  • Added the option to invert the mouse.
  • nVidia surround vision now works properly.
  • More accurate assessment provided by the "auto-detect settings" option will help improve game performance.
  • Removed a bug that prevented completion of the "Blood Curse" quest.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the additional link in "Extras" from being unlocked after winning the dice game against the GOG.com monk.
  • GOG.com credits now work properly.

The Witcher 2.

Cos they can update the digital version perhaps? (So that it looks more fantastic than the retail version).

"Cos they can update the digital version perhaps? (So that it looks more fantastic than the retail version)."

They can update the retail version too as they both have the same launcher and both had a day one patch.

i'm not sure why the retail would improve more. Anyone on retail use the disc to play as this is the only difference I could think of, unless there is an older code that was burnt to disc that is only now being changed.

    Door fix pleeeeease?

    @hunam

The retail version shipped with a last minute Securom addition that apparently is severely impacting performance. It was forced on the developer late in development and something went wrong in implementation. The Steam and GOG versions shipped without that DRM.

(Also, being one of the pioneers of the 'Looks fantastic!' commenting, I'd appreciate not being negged down for legitimately answering a question! If you must neg me down, do it because I'm doing my best to proliferate that meme and you hate me for it....)

Where's the full-screen 16:10 fix for 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 resolutions, CD Projekt? Surely that would take no more than an hour to implement and test??? This isn't a console port you know! :o

What about the AWESOME button? I want an AWESOME button like in Dragon Age II! Either that, or I'm taking my ball home!
  • deadstoned #21 1 year ago

Good fixes there, wish I bloody pre-ordered this game. I'm waiting for it to go back down to £29.99 on Steam xD . Curse my exams!

Needs 5:4 option for 1280x1024 full screen instead of black bars, better movement, and multiple quick saves. Getting stuck with the wraiths at lvl 6 was not fun, had to reload an auto save back at the beginning of Flotsam after exploring the whole map already.
And I wouldn't mind an option to play in first person view, at least for walking around, switching back to 3rd person in combat.

Oh and don't forget the sound. I had numerous occasions where the sound was almost completely muted after meditation. And a few instances where the voices during cut scenes seemed to trail away into the distance until they were barely audible as faint echos while environmental sounds stayed at full volume.

The settings UI in the game leaves much to be desired, they really need to fix that. Why do we have to run a separate application (configurator) to change the settings? Most games have all these settings nicely laid out in the Options menu...

Releasing a game without mouse invert should be a (minor) crime! I had to mess about with the ini files to fix it. :-/

    What needs to be included:

"fixed design issue where people would ragequit the 'tutorial' section after getting killed 20 times by the dragon"

Silly me for not being able to read the lengthy tutorials that flash on the screen in 6pt fonts for 10 seconds in the middle of combat. Of course that info can be found in the journal. Unfortunately the information telling you it was in the journal flashed up the screen in 6pt font for 10 seconds in the middle of combat.

Games being hard is one thing. Games killing you endlessly in the section that is supposed to ease you into the game becauser it relies on you using game mechanics you don't know about? Yeah... That's poor design.

@Dubya - Normally graphics options outside of the game, superb controller support, including display icons for the buttons (and in an RPG no less), and a lack of 16:10 support are the result of a multiformat game designed with the Xbox 360 and/or PS3 in mind.

Not that I'm implying this game is in any way less than amazing but adjusting the game's demanding visuals are made all the more awkward to from having to exit then restart it to access the graphics options. Even Codemasters manage to add extensive graphics options INSIDE their games (DX11 support too) and simply have it restart should the game require it. If they can do it in a multiformat release then I don't see why CD Projekt can't: the first Witcher had in-game graphics options for example, oh and fullscreen 16:10 support for that matter. :?

I guess the developers always had the console versions in mind while designing the game and that likely explains why they seem to have taken a backward step in some areas. Hopefully a patch will rectify these minor annoyances.

Am I the only one that did the dragon part of the Prologue first time then? I didn't realise it was supposed to be so hard until I read of the problems other people had getting past it! :o
  • misho8723 #31 1 year ago

Darren - I was thinking that i'm the only one who did it on the first time :D

Hah, I did that too ( I saw the word dragon, why wouldn't I pick that option)!

That really was being thrown in at the deep end. I went back and started again ;)

Did the Dragon thing first time too!

Patch looks great, glad to see performance improvements coming!

How can you die more than once during the dragon bit in the prologue?

And I'd really, really love a patch to add support for other aspect ratios.
I have my trusty old 19" CRT (which is lovely) but to play the Witcher 2 I have to break out my lorgnette.

I just want to be able to launch the game without having to manually drop my screen resolution down to 1920x1080 (monitor is 2560x1440 native :( )

EDIT: Wait, people are having trouble with the dragon? Which part? The initial bit where you've got to cross an area with guys in it while the thing's setting the place on fire, or the QTE thing crossing the bridge? I had some issues with combat in the prologue, but not with the dragon at all. Though if it was the QTE sequence I'm playing with a 360 pad so it was probably easier (the whole game plays miles better with a gamepad)
