Portal 2 DLC out this summer

Valve confirms more content cooking.

Completed Portal 2 already? Not to worry. New additions to the title are being assembled for launch this summer.

Valve's Doug Lombardi let slip the good news in an interview with Fast Company, but left the details vague.

"We will be announcing some DLC for it, so folks can keep a look out for more content coming this summer. We'll be putting more details out about that in a week or so.

"We'll support that with more videos or more comics," Lombardi said.

There's already one free comic available online, Portal 2: Lab Rat. The story bridges Portal and Portal 2 and follows the mysterious Rat Man. In-game, his graffitied dens are hidden throughout Aperture Science's test chambers.

What could the new DLC contain? It probably won't be more hats, a day one DLC option that infuriated PC gamers.

More likely is the addition of new levels for Portal 2's superb co-op mode, though we hope for something new for the single-player campaign as well.

    This happened sooner than expected.

    Cheers, Valve.

    Hurrah! Finished last night and was disappointed with the exclusion of one of the mechanics advertised before launch through trailers etc. Hopefully this will feature in DLC. (Not mentioning for fear of spoling it for others!)

    I've only played the first two chapters of co-op but it was BRILLIANT as expected.

    Challenge maps, community tools and UGC levels please!

    EG, please ask Valve what they think of going into partnership with PSN now.

    So, free on PC/Mac/PS3 and not on 360 I assume?

    Time to buy some hats.

    Gonna have to buy this for the Mac then. Don't fancy getting nickel and dimed to death on this one.

    Challenge Maps, please, like first game.

    Better not be anything story related. Had enough of games releasing and then you having to pay more to finish the storyline.

    If it's just challenge maps for SP and co-op then I'm all for it.

    I second the call for challenge chambers!

    Unless Valve changes their philosophy of free additional content that stayed true for years, this DLC will be free. L4D1 had received a new game mode, whereas L4D2 has had two campaigns added, both free of charge.

    Thing is, I partly played Portal 2 for the story. What are the chances of any DLC (which will be consumed by fewer people than those who just bought the game) having a canon storyline? I bet the attitude will have to be - "let's assume not everyone buys the DLC, thus keep the DLC content pretty neutral in terms of advancing the story".

    Going down the Lab Rat Comic route might be good through. That was creative and interesting without affecting Chell or GLaDos too directly.

    If it's going to be single-player it'll either have to be a new character or challenge maps. I suspect the latter, summer's a bit too soon for anything big. This is Valve we're talking about - they're taking months just inputting a completed user campaign to L4D2.

    Completed last night. Utterly awesome game. Over a bit too quick though so DLC is welcome.

    I could see Valve charging for this on Steam. It's going to happen. They don't seem so against micro transactions these days.

    What's the difference between the PS3 and 360 version? I'm not bothered about Steamworks and most of my mates have the 360 version.

    @Snufkin

    What was left out?

    I purposefully tried to stay away from everything Portal 2 before release, didn't want to know anything about it
  • cw- #19 1 year ago

    Get it on the PC then, so you only have to spend £25-£30 on an amazing game.

    @cw-

    There were a bunch of trailers for these things called [Pneumatic Diversity Vents. Basically they're the plastic vacuum tubes you can see all over the place, but they are open and you can use them for sucking up gels, turrets, parts of the scenery etc.] They look awesome! The trailer showed them being used in single player levels, I think. I was expecting them to turn up so was surprised when I got to the end of the game and the credits rolled without them showing up. So, I'm guessing they'll be in the DLC.

    @ap3xx - well if you mean 'more of the same' as the SEQUAL to the only other game like it - I surguest you buy one game only and never ever buy another game again as anything you buy is more the bloody same...

    Sorry but are 'it's a clone' or 'more the same' becomming generic excuses to justify not buying a game you may not like to begin with?

    Blimey, completely forgot about those! Wonder why they were cut.

  • Haq-1 #24 1 year ago
