SOCOM 4 Special Forces release date

PlayStation 3 exclusive hits next month.

Move-enabled PlayStation 3 exclusive SOCOM Special Forces launches in the UK and Ireland on 22nd April, Sony has announced.

It hits mainland Europe on 20th April and Australia and New Zealand on 21st April.

A beta is "incoming", PlayStation Blog Manager James Gallagher tweeted this morning.

Exclusive PlayStation Plus access to the SOCOM: Special Forces beta begins on 23rd March.

Back in July last year developer Zipper Interactive promised gamers SOCOM 4 would be worth the wait.

Ellie interviewed European SOCOM producer Elliott Martin back in April 2010 and discovered all sorts of interesting gubbins about the military shooter.

Really hope this is good, badly need a tactical shooter as "run n gun" has been done to death!

It's Zipper so it won't be crap put it that way

Hope your right Slim, i thought MAG was very average and that was from Zipper.

@UkH - I think it will be a good game, but don't get your hopes up too much regarding it being a 'tactical' shooter. Seemed very run and gun from the EG Expo last year.

I look forward to trying the beta though. I'm a big fan of MAG.

When did you last play MAG? It's had a lot of patches over the years and it's a very decent shooter, pretty much the same thing happened with the last SOCOM too - the difference between launch day and the final quality was incredible. The SOCOM games give amazing post-release support and improvement.

Lets see...regenerative health: check. No pistols: check. No grenade arc: check. Matchmaking instead of lobbies: check. No d-pad lean: check. Dual primaries: check. Killstreaks: check. Removal of the majority of classic game modes: check.

Look Zipper, if I wanted to play a CoD game, I'll play CoD. Don't try to conform. Try to stand out like you used to, don't try and go for the casual dollar by dumbing the game down.

I'm definitely coming into this from a "loved MAG" perspective rather than a "loved PS2 SOCOM" perspective. Having said that, I'm really looking forward to it.

SAFTY & HONESTY GUARANTEE!! you say!? I can't get my credit card out of my wallet fast enough...

Back on topic, I really like how Zipper have localised some of the playable characters depending on the region of the player, that's pretty sweet. :)

all you guys r living in the past,"mags a good shooter".I have never played a bigger pile of steaming shit in all my life!
and soc4 will be no different...come to think of it maybe its zipper who r stuck in the past or they just don't have the money to make a decent game, that game engine needed reworked about 15 years ago judging the way zippers games look.....
    the future is coming..BF3...BIOSHOCK3...CYRYSIS2...

I am watching this now after dismiss mag until this January to realize it was fa 9/10 game.

this better get the fame it deserves and not like what happened to "MAG".MAG is one of the best games this generation, but due to pile of C-r-a-p like COD and idiotic reviewers , MAG just got too serious for their puny brains and focus..

I suggest that next time there is COD game out the reviewers will have to play the game (on and offline) and then go to the paintball arena and then try the same tactics there, maybe the reviews will be more realistic then.

I can't wait for this to come out. I've got my Sharpshooter lined up.
