PC Crysis 2 demo announced

EA spreads the love.

A PC demo of upcoming sci-fi shooter Crysis 2 will release, EA has announced.

"At this time, Crytek & EA are glad to confirm that we'll be releasing a pre-launch Crysis 2 multiplayer demo on PC! Stay tuned for details," splurged the official Crysis Twitter account.

The decision follows a raft of complaints by PC gamers about the apparent Xbox 360 exclusivity of the demo.

A multiplayer demo for the game was released for Xbox 360 earlier this week. On Wednesday Crytek said it was working on a patch to address a number of bugs associated with disconnects and screen freezing.

Now all that's left is for EA to confirm a PlayStation 3 demo.

Good news about a PC demo although the multiplayer is not the reason I want Crysis 2 as what made Crysis and Crysis Warhead so enjoyable were their campaigns. At least I'll be able to see how it runs on my hardware though.

I tried the 360 demo briefly last night and was surprised by how good it looked and felt to play (even if multiplayer games are not exactly my forte). Visually the game looked a lot better than I expected and it was refreshing to see a 360 game running without screen tearing. Textures were very good (if prone to occasional pop-in) and the lighting was especially impressive. Unlike many other shooters Crytek have remembered to give a sense of being in the game world by showing the character's body when you look down, complete with properly cast shadow. Bodes well for the PC version if it can look and run so good on six year old console hardware.

Controls on the 360 are fucking sluggish. So it'll be good to test this out on my new pc.

Is it cynical of me to think they've only done this to try and claw back some positive word of mouth after the 360 demo received a mixed verdict?

Nice one EA (didn't think I would be saying that any time soon)

Shall delete the 360 demo then and wait for this.

So Epic, you bunch of ass hats, going to give us a PC demo for Bulletstorm. Although it looks crap anyway...

No SP demo? Personally I couldn't care less about MP but I believe I'm probably in the minority in thinking that.

The 360 demo looks nice and everything but lag and poor aiming makes it impossible to enjoy.
I don't think i've played even one match where there isn't large amount of lag that distracts gameplay(i have 10/10 net so that's not the problem)
The other problem is in the aim assistant or... the lack of it. Large sensitivity and little to none assistant makes it hard to aim. Halo and COD has this covered and i play both on high sensitivity but crysis just doesn't feel right.

It doesn't even feel like Crysis on a console. More like Modern Warfare with space marines and poor controls. The PC demo will at least help make me look forward to yep you guessed it, the PC version. As long as Crytek have done it justice of course.

It's nice they are doing it a lot of people took offence at the 360 love in from Crytek. IMO they shouldn't have spat in the faces of the people who bought 3 million copies of Crysis and 1.5 million copies of Warhead in the first place.

Still when EA are treating PC gamers quite bad with no demos or snubbed on content it's nice to get a little love. Besides from what the feedback is on the 360 demo they are gonna need to convince people on all platforms to buy Crysis 2.

Loving the 360 demo, and seeing as it's a 360 "exclusive" I wouldn't be surprised if both PC and PS3 got similar demos with a different level or game mode in each to keep them "exclusive"

Crysis 2 is gonna blow up my old computer, but who cares?! I love explosions :D

Anyone remember Far Cry? The game that had the best PC demo of all time? Yeah, that was Crytek too..

How far the mighty have fallen. An MP demo? Pfft.

I spent hours and hours with the PC Crysis demo, actually more time than I spent on the game.

Admittedly it was hacked so you had all vehicles and all weapons, and could spawn enemies, but it was awesome.

never understood the fanfare that bulletstorm is receiving, its braindead jarhead humour is lost on me. I love games that are cartoony/ self referencial ie. half life2 or mgs. but bullet storm has all the subtley and elegance of a bunch of fratboys shotgunning jack daniels while playing slipknot, and so in an attempt to parody the alledged shallowness of fps, it becomes shallow in itself. And swearing in games makes me grit my teeth, because 99% of the time it comes across as a forced attempt by the devs to say " heh kids look we just said fuck!!" so being an alledged parody does not automatically mean its funny, take meet the spartans for a movie equivilent

Still no love for the PS3 demo version. Ah well... :o(
  • kirankara #20 1 year ago

    @NeoKenzi

Own both consoles and can't find myself giving any lOve at all to crysis on either based on the 360 demo. If I was a ps3 owner I'd not be disappointed one little bit, I'd be looking at kz3 and thinking it looks a lot better and can't play any worse if it tried. They might fix up crysis 2 by launch, but the demo was pants.

A good step in the right direction EA / Crytek. While I'll personally keep my fingers crossed for a SP demo - as I've never really cared for multiplayer FPS since my Quake 3 Arena days - but at least PC gamers will now be able to get a taste of Crysis 2 and be able to judge how detrimental, if at all, it's cross platform development has been on the presentation and game play.

Recent multi-platform sequels to previously PC only franchises (F.E.A.R. for example) have been seriously lacking in tweak-able options and burdened with ugly HUDs, sluggish mouse smoothing, narrow FOVs and constant pop-ups ("Press X to enter cover";) as if we are five years old or something. I hope the Crysis 2 demo bucks this annoying trend.

    About time!
    But thanks!
Make it a single player demo & we'll really love you!
