Super Meat Boy gets PC boxed edition

Gruesome artwork might turn you vegan.

Acclaimed indie platformer Super Meat Boy is to get a limited edition boxed release for PC, developer Team Meat has announced.

The release, which will be available through Team Meat's website, includes the original game plus "special features like behind the scenes videos, design sketches, illustrations and never before scene cutting room floor characters, art and the like".

It's due out in January and "will probably sell for around 20-25 bucks depending on the final price of the printing."

Team Meat also posted the decidedly icky cover art, painted by Dave Rapoza of Magic: The Gathering fame. Check it out below if you've got the stomach.

It's been a busy couple of weeks for Team Meat. It recently managed to release a digital version of Meat Boy for PC, followed that up with free DLC for the Xbox 360 version and then proceeded to pick a fight with animal rights activists.

Hope PETA keep scthum or Ed McMillen might go off on a hissy fit again. Great cover.

I don't think they could use a better cover. Super Meat Boy is just so epic.

Before they decided to pick a pathetic schoolyard fight with PETA?

    Would've bought.

    Now?

    No thanks.

@darkmorgado: Yes, retaliating in an amusing fashion to a bunch of self-important activists' parody of their game is pathetic. Whereas belligerently refusing to buy the original game because of this, and broadcasting it at every available opportunity is the height of maturity!

Where's IRONOMAN when you need him?

Does really look like Ben Grimm.

As for the PETA vs. Meatboy extravaganza, it did reach some childish proportions especially on Twitter, but at least two things are to be kept in mind:

    1) Tofu Boy is now a playable character on Steam

    2) In the blog post related to the PETA flash game (Super Tofu Boy), Edmund actually made some sensible comments. (http://www.supermeatboy.com/65/Super_Mea... Like, he admitted he was hoping that PETA reacts to SMB:

"Putting all my cards on the table right now, I actually made fake user names in Peta's forum pushing the game at them in hopes something like this would happen, but gave up realizing that Peta wouldn't ever put effort into something "meat related" that was so small and unknown, that's exactly why this parody is so important and eye opening for us. (Edit: i made a user account over a year ago for the flash game, not recently)"

He also makes it clear he used to be a long time vegetarian and that he has a lot of respect for vegetarians. His line is drawn at animal testing for medical purposes. Which you might agree or disagree on but at least he's made an effort to explain himself so that all the PETA bashing is put into perspective and that it's clear there is no bad blood on either side.

So, all that out of the way, I will be more than happy to buy the boxed release once it reaches our shores.

Also, funny how it's the PC version that gets a physical release - the one pronest to piracy etc...

They weren't retaliating, they were provoking. I don't really like it, but it was a smart business decision and doesn't seem worth boycotting or protesting.

I love Team Meat, purely for owning those PETA cunts. Had to retweet their "How many members of PETA does it take to change a lightbulb? None, PETA can't change anything", absolutely dominated those arseholes!

Was it PETA who made that "Cooking Mama murders animals" game?
