Kamiya hints at Bayonetta 2

Is it coming? "I believe so," he tweets.

In a tweet as concise as this news story is going to be, Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya has said he reckons there will be a Bayonetta 2.

"Will there be a Bayonetta 2?" a fan asked the Bayonetta and Devil May Cry director on Twitter. "I believe so," he replied.

"She'll be back if you believe so," he said to another follower, slightly less convincingly, according to Siliconera.

Bayonetta met a warm reception from hardcore gamers and critics, and respectable sales, when it was released late last year in Japan and early this year in the West. Publisher SEGA has indicated it might be up for a sequel.

"She'll be back if you believe so,"

Excellent. It was a very creative game. Also quite funny. And the combat was really good... though I sucked at it. Casual mode for the win! (I'm a loser).

If this pans out I hope for a little more polish though. Some of the voice acting and stop motion cut scenes were a bit cheapo, though it didn't hurt the game overall.

    Anyway. More space bike please.

More Bayonetta is always a good thing.

I loved Bayonetta, still one of the best games this year for me, but it was starting to drag near the end, I had to push myself to finish it. So I'm not really sure if this is a good idea, there's only so much you can do with flat cartoony characters and an, admittedly great, combo system to keep it interesting.

Good stuff, I'm playing through the original at the moment and it really is extremely entertaining. Knowingly silly in places too, which helps. So many Japanese games have these characters with ridiculous super-human abilities and they're all so serious and emo about it, it just comes across as embarrassing. So yes please, more Bayonetta can only be a good thing.

Hopefully we'll have proper cutscenes instead of still shots this time.

Oh god I loved the first one. That's the only game where I got Platinum trophy naturally. Do want more, Kamiya-san, pleeeeeeease!

More Enzo please, I love his Joe pesci-esce antics

To be honest, i thought this games was massively over rated (Edge 10 is ludicrous). Terrible music, annoying characters, endless boss fights. I wanted to pull off massive combos while fighting twenty dudes but couldn't because all i did was fight huge bosses and then fight the same bosses again. Lame!

Give me Ninja Gaiden 3 any day!

Must go back to this in 2013 when I get bored of Reach...

I loved Bayonetta when I was crap at it and semi-button mashing my way through. Then I calmed down, thought about how to approach it - and realised it's one of the most perfectly balanced, risk and reward games I've ever played. Pure magic. More please...

Bayonetta was utterly sublime, hopefully they'll tone the sexuality down a bit though for a sequel too many people refused to take it seriously as a result.
  • spekkeh #20 2 years ago

Don't completely agree with Dogs>Gods, there was one kickass combo pretty easy to pull off (something like punch-punch-punch-kick-kick-punch), especially with the claws on, that was pretty much the best combo for the entire game. In a sequel I'd like it if they could find a way to counter this.

Nah, Bayonetta's quirky, self-referential sexuality was one of Bayonetta's highlights. It was sardonic, inordinate and purposefully exaggerated, I hope they don't remove Bayonetta's sexuality because it's her subversion of traditional gaming heroine sexuality which makes her so memorable.

you could always switch to kulshedra or colts if you wanted tighter combat.
katana and claws combination, however, did ruin the challenge.

Bayonetta is a contender for my game of the year. It's about the only game I know of that you get all 1000 gamer points and still have loads to do.

I bet a lot of people don't realise there are 2 unlockable characters and a (bastard hard) hidden boss.
  • Rack #24 2 years ago

I get your point MiniAmin but while the subtly subversive elements of Bayonettas design were interesting they were far less so than the rich combat system and varied level design. I also think it wouldn't be so severely diminished by not having posters of Bayonetta naked behind post-it notes.
  • muscleblade #25 2 years ago

Got every achievement and loved every minute of it. Want more.
  • MiniAmin #26 2 years ago

Yep, that's a good point Rack: the danger of subtle commentary is that if it's too subtle it simply echoes the conventions it's trying to ridicule. I do agree with your second post, but personally I enjoyed the sheer absurdity of Bayonetta's sexuality.
  • woodnotes #27 2 years ago

Can't wait for some more Bayonetta!

And to think I hated my first hour with that game. The rest was pure win.
  • ThemisB #28 2 years ago

Please let this happen. One of the main reasons I bought a 360 earlier this year was so I didn't have to play the gimped PS3 version of the original. Definitely one of my GOTY so far.
  • geeza2020 #29 2 years ago

Mogs - Now you're just embarrassing yourself.
  • abot #30 2 years ago

    More Bayonetta would be brilliant.
