New Resident Evil CGI film announced

Capcom has Degeneration to scare.

Capcom has announced a sequel to CGI film Resident Evil: Degeneration. It will be called Resident Evil: Damnation.

The film is in production now and aims for a 3D release in Japan in 2012.

Like in Degeneration, the main character will be Leon S. Kennedy. Other than that, no plot details were divulged.

Resident Evil: Degeneration, released in January 2009 in the UK, has now shipped more than 1.6 million DVDs around the world. The film made JPY 40 million at the Japan Box Office (£311,183).

The previous big-screen Resident Evil films fared much better. Their combined income was $380 million.

Nice another fairly decent RE movie. One day they'll make a good live action movie based Resident Evil to....

/ shudders at the thought of how bad that 4th pile of anderson poo will be

Considering I regard Degeneration as better than the movies with Alice, and the only one that is canon, this sounds like good news. Where there is Leon, there should be Claire and/or Ada. I hope they do lip synch for the english actors this time.

First CG film was alright. Hope this one follows suit.

Better than the THREEDEE garbage we'll have to suffer from Mr Anderson.
Please... enough is enough. No one fucking cares about your odd feminist empowering clichéd chick-action-flick! Set it on fire, and walk away. Now.

I really like Degeneration, I'll admit it's not perfect but I still think it is a really good film. I'm still recovering from the news that they are going to make a 5th live action one though :(

The 3D one looks horrific. Purely made so we can throw as much 3D crap in the direction of the camera as possible while forgetting to maka decent movie.

Leon didn't look right in the CG movie. The whole time I was watching it I just kept thinking "dude you look weird"

"Yes, you heard me. I think words I would never say."

I thought Degeneration was a good laugh. Certainly felt canon and contained all the campy horror you'd expect from a Resi game. The stiff facial animations were a bit odd though.

I love a bit of Resi, but I was really dissapointed by Degeneration. Usually Resi has some really cool bad guys, this film didn't have any, I found it quite boring tbh. Still, I guess these things will never work for everyone.

You guys realise a 5th resi movie from Anderson is on the cards now 4 has opened at #1 in the states. I blame film chavs.

I'm actually looking forward to this. I enjoyed the last film; it felt more like Resident Evil should than any of the games have since Code Veronica. Don't get me wrong, they're not bad (especially not 4) but they just don't feel like RE anymore. To me at least.

Good news as far as im concerned, Degeneration was like watching all the cutscenes of a ps1 resi game.

"Purely made so we can throw as much 3D crap in the direction of the camera as possible while forgetting to make decent movie."
You pretty much just summed up the current state of the popular film industry there.

Alice, Alice, who the fuck is Alice?

I thought Degeneration was a bit crap personally. Not as bad as the live-action films but still crap nonetheless. But then again, I've always felt the Resident Evil games have been fairly bad in the story department, and Degeneration felt exactly like an overlong cutscene ripped straight from the games, complete with cheesy dialogue and that overall cheap B-movie feel they always had.

I liked seeing Claire again and Leon but... Degeneration was missing something, I think after RE4 I was expecting some big Reveal but in the end it felt disconected to me

I went to see the new Res 4 film last night and really enjoyed it. Not as good as the first film but better than 2 and 3. It was great they used some of the characters from RE5. And deffo left open for a 5th film.

I thought RE Degeneration was kinda bilge too. The news of another CG debacle is met with luke warm reception from this monkey. To the japanese, those CG grpahics might look cool, and to a degree they are, but with little to no substnce of story, bad direction etc, they just come off as more Kojima wannabes trying to make hollywood style films. Besides that, japanese CG always looks like a PS2 refugee, that has much to learn, when animating from simpler2D to more complicated 3D.

I would really have prefer Capcom to go the anime route instead, perhaps a 13 episode series. Films do not do the RE universe and its many characters, twists etc, jusitce. Give this series to Production IG to play with, and something spectucular will come of it. Also with a better write on board it could be awesome. Still don't get why DMC got an anime series (and an awful one at that) over choosing RE.

What makes this announcement more weird, is that Dead Rising has a short Samurai Dead Rising anime (google it and watch clip) due soon, to help push DR2. So again, why not a full Dead Rising anime series too? Capcom will only realise the potential of such things, long after awesome The Walking Dead tv series (its going to be more epic than Lost, IMO) hits our screens on Halloween. As for that Zombrex short, it was terrible to say the least. Again, why do these developers feel the need to physically make such films?

Anyway, if such CG cheese makes Capcom more loot, to drive into more cool games, there's a silver lining to this dark cloud.

I'm looking forward to this because it speaks to me more than the live action films ever could!
  • Bulbatron #20 2 years ago

This is what I wanted to hear! The live action films may have made more money, but they were nowhere near as good.
  • CloisterBlack #21 2 years ago

I hope that they won't have Leon just in the movies, but in future games as well, if any.
And I agree with someone above me, Leon did look weird in the film. They should have used his head model from the game
