Worms house Team17 to be a publisher again

Think of it as a fertile garden of indie talent.

Worms maker - Wormery? - Team17 has decided to become a publisher again.

Its first title will be Steam Greenlight game Light, "a minimalist stealth infiltration game where you'll find yourself hacking systems, knocking out guards (or avoiding them completely) and evading countless enemies in small environments".

Light has a blueprint-like presentation, a bit like Frozen Synapse, and a simple but effective light mechanic. Light beams out from your character (a block) to illuminate rooms, but objects and obstacles will obscure your line of sight, adding to the tension.

Though Team17 has been pulling out Worms from its garden for years and years and years, and very successfully, it actually got its break 23 years ago by publishing games. Alien Breed, Project-X, Superfrog, Assassin and Super Stardust were among its throng.

"Ultimately, the timing is right," explained Team17. "Team17 is in a very fortunate position with a wealth of personal experience to share. Team17 has an incredible community running into many millions that we can cross-promote within and raise awareness for new IPs and specifically indie games, which are very close to our hearts and something we stand up for.

"Team17 is home to an awesome digital publishing team who have topped every digital chart from PC, console and mobile over the last couple of years. Most importantly, Team17 make games as well and know first-hand just what it takes to make a game and take it to market correctly across all platforms."

Light is made by Brighton-based developer Just a Pixel. There's no confirmed release date for the game but demos are available for PC (Windows) and Mac.
