Tony Hawk: Shred out "this holiday"

Created for a "younger audience".

Tony Hawk: Shred will be released "this holiday season", publisher Activision's said.

According to a press release sent out today, the game is intended for "a younger audience".

Shred uses a motion-sensing board controller, as did its predecessor Tony Hawk: Ride.

The game, though, has an arcade art style designed to entice "kids to get off the couch and into the action".

"With the game's innovative motion-controller board peripheral and exciting GO BIG gameplay, kids will be actively using their boundless energy while riding as any of Shred's pro skate and snowboarders," says the official blurb.

Shed's also got snowboarding in the French Alps and Beijing, China. You can import your Mii and Avatar characters into the Wii and Xbox 360 versions, respectively.

"Tony Hawk: Shred is all about experiencing over-the-top, almost unbelievable GO BIG moments throughout the game - the kind of tricks and stunts that we can only hope to achieve as our sports continue to evolve," said Tony Hawk himself.

"I'm also excited about including snowboarding in Shred, because when we originally came up with the board motion-controller, we didn't just have skateboarding in mind, and it's nice to finally see that idea coming to fruition."

Tony Hawk: Ride suffered from disappointing reviews. Eurogamer gave it 4/10.

Hawk said critics had unfair preconceptions: "Most snarky critics had their minds set before ever seeing/playing the game. I'm proud of what we created; it's innovative, responsive & fun."

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Shred are in development at Robomodo. The Wii game's in the works at Buzz Monkey.
