Super Mario Bros 35 is challenging players to team up and defeat 3.5 million Bowsers

Super Mario Bros 35 might not have long left in this world, but players are in for a busy few months before it takes its final bow in March. Before then, Nintendo will be holding a number of special World Count Challenge events for the battle royale platformer, tasking players with communally achieving a range of objectives, starting with the defeat of 3.5 million Bowsers.

Bowser's torment marks the first of three World Count Challenges to be held before the end of March, and will run from 7am in the UK on 19th January until 6:59am on 26th January.

In order to achieve the target of 3.5 million Bowsers obliterated before the event comes to an close, participating players around the world can add to the tally either be defeating Bowser as part of Super Mario Bros 35's regular gameplay, or via the week's Special Battle, which Nintendo says will include additional opportunities to bring down Mario's ever-persistent foe.

If the target is successfully reached before the deadline, all players that managed to fell at least one Bowser will receive 350 Platinum Points, which can be redeemed for random bobbins over on the My Nintendo website.

Nintendo says details of Super Mario Bros 35's World Count Challenges for February and March will be revealed at a later date, and the game itself will disappear in a puff of smoke never to be seen again - unless Nintendo has a Jump-Rope-Challenge-style change of heart - on 31st March.
