Pokémon Sun and Moon Magearna QR Code - event details and how to catch the mythical Pokémon Magearna
How, where, and when you can get your hands on Sun and Moon's first mythical Pokémon, Magearna.
Pokémon Sun and Moon's Magearna QR code event is the first of Generation 7's mythical Pokémon giveaways, and likewise the first of its kind in it's use of the 3DS's QR scanner feature.
It's simple to do, and seeing as these mythical event Pokémon are so hard to come by, also a chance to get your hands on what will likely become an extremely rare Pokémon, so well worth your effort!
Magearna QR code giveaway - when and where is the event and code?
Magearna has already been given away by QR code in Japan, with players receiving the code if they went to see the latest animated film, Volcanion and the Ingenious Magearna, earlier this year.
For North America and Europe, the Magearna giveaway starts December 5th 2016, and unlike other mythical giveaways recently, will run indefinitely thanks to the infinite availablity of QR codes. This runs contrary to the original word from the Pokémon Company that the distribution would end in March 2017.
The North American QR code is now live, which you can see to the right as the first, upper image - note that this is region locked and so will only work for those with a North American system.
After some delay, the European QR code for Magearna is now live too.
Players are invited to watch the same movie as those in Japan, Volcanion and the Ingenious Magearna, albeit this time for free on the Pokémon TV site.
The code for acquiring Magearna is displayed right at the very end, which you can skip to. Seeing as the film as free and skippable, for ease of use we've included it here on the right, as the lower of the two images.

How to get Magearna in Pokémon Sun and Moon
To physically get Magearna in your game, you'll need to first gain access to the QR Scanner itself in Sun and Moon.
The scanner is available early on, but the actual function needed for Magearna requires you to have already become the Alolan Island Champion - something that our complete Pokémon Sun and Moon walkthrough can cerntainly help you with.
Once you've done that, open up the QR Scanner by tapping the icon on the second page of the lower screen menu. Then you can scan the corresponding code out of the two embedded above for your region, or you can head on over to the Official Pokémon site and get the Magearna QR code up on screen there if in North America, or watch the Volcanion movie right to the very end if you're in Europe.
Then, simply point your 3DS's external camera at the QR code, and press the A button to scan. You then need to head to a shop in Hau'oli city called Antiques of the Ages, where a deliveryman will hand it over - the mythical Magearna should now be all yours! We should remind you to quickly save, too, as each QR code can only be used once.
Be sure to check out our dedicated page on QR codes and the QR scanner in Pokémon Sun and Moon, where we also provide a list of all Alolan and non-Alolan Pokémon you can acquire with the scanner, plus our pages on other giveaways, such as the code for two Mega Mewtwo Stones, Mewtonite X and Y, too.
