Creating MMORPG title World of Warcraft has been "a Herculean type of effort", according to Blizzard VP Paul Sams and creative director Chris Metzen, speaking in an exclusive interview with GamesIndustry.biz.

"These kinds of games are monsters - totally unlike anything else we've tried to build," Metzen says in today's interview about the company's already hugely successful massively multiplayer title, which is the first part of an exclusive interview with two of the senior figures behind one of the world's top development studios.

In part one, Metzen and Sams discuss the enormous challenges faced by the company in moving from creating traditional boxed games to building a massively multiplayer title, and talk about how the studio has had to adapt both its business and creative processes to meet those challenges.

You can find the interview on gi.biz today, while the second part, discussing the status of eagerly awaited console title StarCraft Ghost, the firm's relationship with parent company VU Games and some of Blizzard's thinking on the future, will be published next week.
