My Little Pony: FiM creator launches brony fighting game crowdfunding campaign

For Fighting is Magic spiritual successor Them's Fightin' Herds.

Back in March 2013 My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic had its very own fan-made fighting game, Fighting is Magic. Despite being a non-profit game that used its proceeds to raise money for breast cancer, series rights holder Hasbro slapped developer Mane6 it with a cease & desist.

Friendship is Magic creative director and producer Lauren Faust wasn't happy about this so she teamed up with Mane6 to create an all new horse-related fighting game that wouldn't technically impede upon Hasbro's rights. This new force made an arrangement with Skullgirls developer Labzero wherein the developer would let Mane6 use its fighting engine if Skullgirls raised enough money on Indiegogo (which it did).

Now, 2.5 years later, the new pony fighting game Them's Fightin' Herds has emerged on Indiegogo where it's looking for $436k to fund this spiritual successor.

Them's Fightin' Herds will be a far more fleshed out game than Fighting is Magic ever was. It will contain a four-button fighting system with magic, enhanced super attacks, dynamic music, online play, a "visual lobby" where you can beat each other up for practice, and more.

Unlike Fighting is Magic, Them's Fightin' Herds will feature all manner of four-legged fauna, not just ponies. Based on the art revealed so far, there are llamas, sheepdogs, bears and deer in Faust's newly created world of Fœnum.

You can reserve a copy of Them's Fightin' Herds for PC by pledging $15 and there's multiple goodies available for bigger spenders. The game is expected to launch around April 2017.

Them's Fightin' Herds has already raised $84,842 towards its $436k goal after only half a day. It has 30 more days to raise the rest.
