MOBA / shooter Gigantic launches open beta on Xbox One and PC

Think Smite meets The Last Guardian.

Want to play a game with a giant friendly beast and you don't have a PS4 for The Last Guardian? You may be in luck as third-person shooter / MOBA hybrid Gigantic, which features fighting alongside a colossal beast that will terrorise your opposition once adequately charged, has launched its open beta today on Windows 10 PC and Xbox One via Microsoft's Game Preview Program.

Gigantic is centered around 5v5 team-based combat wherein players choose between 16 Heroes, each with their own comprehensive skill tree. Claiming points on the map will summon in various allied creatures that will aid your team in different ways.

Developer Motiga has quite the pedigree with Starcraft, Guild Wars and State of Decay lead designer James Phinney taking point as Gigantic's creative director.

Gigantic's development was rather troubled as developer Motiga had to undergo significant layoffs back in February. At the time, it was uncertain if the game would even come out, but thankfully the studio partnered with Perfect World Entertainment in May, allowing its vision of Gigantic to come to fruition.

Gigantic is a free-to-play game, though you can buy the Founder's Pack for $39.99 (about £32), which includes unlocks to all 16 Heroes at the start of the beta, early access to four upcoming Heroes, limited edition skins, and a Founder's status icon on your profile.

Heroes and creatures can all be obtained through earning in-game currency of Crowns, though they can be permanently unlocked quicker using Rubies, which cost real-world money. Some cosmetic items will only be attainable through this method.
