Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition notches up 3 million sales

Something to build on.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has now broken the 3 million sales barrier on Xbox Live Arcade.

Creator Markus "Notch" Persson confirmed the new total on Twitter this morning.

How much money has the conversion made? Minecraft on XBLA costs 1600 Microsoft Points (about £13.60). Three million sales therefore equates to a stunning £40.8 million of revenue. And Microsoft will pocket around £12m of this, based on the company's usual 30 per cent rate.

The game's last sales milestone was 1 million sales in May. That means another 2 million sales have been made in 66 days - more than 21 a minute, if our maths is correct.

That 3 million milestone also means Minecraft on Xbox 360 has accomplished nearly half the number of Minecraft sales on PC (6.7 million and counting). The number of registered PC users, however, is far higher (over 35 million).
