The "ultimate" version of mental Japanese shmup Deathsmiles will launch in Europe early 2011, publisher Rising Star Games has said.

Deathsmiles Deluxe Edition – exclusive to PAL territories – includes the complete version of the game, the Mega Black DLC (an expanded version of the game with special features, an additional stage and an extra playable character), a desktop accessory pack and the original soundtrack.

The Cave-developed shooter features three modes: Arcade (original Arcade game), Xbox 360 (Arcade conversion) and Version 1.1 (conversion designed specifically for the Xbox 360).

There's also a two-player co-op mode playable locally or online over Xbox Live.

Deathsmiles is based around witches on broomsticks rather than spaceships. Pick a lady and begin, blasting hordes of enemies that come from both sides of the screen with rapid-fire spells. That means you'll be shooting behind you as well as in front. Luckily, you'll have a bit of help: each witch will have a familiar (pet) that flies along with them. It was released three years ago in Japanese arcades.
