SOE working on new PlanetSide

Player survey reveals MMOFPS sequel.

An email sent out to PlanetSide subscribers by Sony Online Entertainment suggests that a sequel to the cult massively multiplayer shooter is in the works.

The email, titled "Help Us Design the Next PlanetSide Game", said: "We plan to expand the PlanetSide universe with another game and we need your help with the design." It invited readers to take part in a survey.

"The information you provide will play a critical role into helping guide the development and direction of the next hit Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter," it said, but assured fans of the original that it wouldn't be discontinued. "Don't worry about the original PlanetSide, it isn't going anywhere."

Fansite PlanetSide Universe also discovered that SOE had registered the domain name, which redirects to the PlanetSide website – and obtained this comment from SOE chief John Smedley: "Planetside fans will be happy. We have big things planned in the next 12 months. We're working on something new that's really cool."

Smedley also mentioned that a patch for the original game in the works, bringing full Vista compliance among other things.
