PS4 Black Friday deals 2020: What to expect

The PlayStation bargains we expect to see this year - including PS4, PS4 Pro and more.

As the month of November draws near our minds are already turning towards the PS4 Black Friday deals we might see in 2020. After what has been a tough and unusual eight months (to put it mildly), this year's Black Friday sales could end up being very different than usual. Still, here are the offers we think you might see on the PS4, PS4 Pro, PS4 games and more.

It's important to point out that a lot of these expectations could be heavily impacted by the launch of the PS5, which is still expected to happen in Holiday 2020. Current predictions suggest this going to be in November, potentially in the week before Black Friday. With that in mind, retailers could see this as an excellent opportunity to significantly discount the PS4 and PS4 Pro in order to clear any remaining stock. Just don't go in expecting any massive bargains on the PS5 this year!

The PS4 Black Friday deals we expect in 2020

It would be very easy to assume that significant discounts are coming on the PS4 and PS4 Pro this Black Friday. We've already seen Microsoft pull the trigger early with their huge refurbished Xbox One X deal, but will Sony follow suit with something similar?

Considering that PS4 consoles have been in short supply during the pandemic, it might not be in the best position to support a massive sales spike. That said, we've seen other manufacturers get back to some semblance of normal production levels over the last couple of months. Sony, then, might be preparing something for this occasion.

If something big does drop in Black Friday 2020, it seems more likely there will be a bigger deal on the PS4 Pro rather than the standard PS4. This more powerful version of the console would be the one to go for anyway as it is more capable of handling the latest games. We've seen the original PS4 struggle with new releases and suffer from some serious performance issues that might put you off that version of the console.

In terms of PS4 games, your best option is to look to the Days of Play sale that ran earlier this year for inspiration. We'd expect to see many of these discounts on the best PS4 games including first-party PlayStation releases such Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding and Days Gone to return for Black Friday. As previous years have shown as well, it's a good time to buy into PS Plus or PSVR as both of these should once again be reduced for the Black Friday sales period. Expect another 25 per cent off the former, while the latter should be down to around £200 again for the headset and a game or two.

We'll give it a cursory paragraph, but you absolutely shouldn't expect to see a PS5 Black Friday deal this earlier. The console might not even be out by the time the bargain bonanza begins! If it is, though, it'll have launched in the days before, so you can almost guarantee it won't be involved in the offers. At best, you might be able to get a PS5 bundle with a free game, but we reckon that's about it.

Be sure to follow Jelly Deals on Twitter as well, as we'll be posting all the best PS4 offers we come across and so much more throughout the Black Friday sales period.

Last year's best PS4 Black Friday deals

Last year saw some excellent PS4 Pro bundle deals as Sony looked to shift stock of their more powerful console before the arrival of the next generation. Wherever you looked, you could find a console with at least one game for £300, including new releases such as Death Stranding and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

For the slimmer console, it was the return of Amazon's exclusive PS Hits bundle that was the way to go. For £230, you got a PS4 and five of the console's top games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Uncharted 4. That was about it for that console version, though.

In the US, it was very much the reverse. There was a terrific PS4 slim bundle for $200 that came with God of War, The Last of Us Remastered and Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition at Amazon US. As a way to get your PS4 collection started, there really wasn't a better deal out there.

In terms of the PS4 Pro, there wasn't a great deal until after Black Friday itself when Amazon launched a surprise bundle for $299 that included Spider-Man, God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Where the US also lead the way was in the world of game deals. There was really very little to get excited about in the UK, with most major or new releases barely dropping to reach the £40 mark. Of course, there was the usual 25 per cent off PS Plus subscriptions, though, so it was the perfect time to renew.

Compare that to the US, however, where first-party releases such as Days Gone fell to their lowest ever prices. It was a perfect opportunity to catch up on some of the console's major releases that you may have missed over the last year or so.

It was PSVR where the offers were universal. Black Friday was absolutely the right time to check out Sony's attempt to capitalise on our fascination with the virtual world. You could get both Starter Kits and Mega Packs at massively reduced prices - and stock truly flew. Congrats if you managed to grab one quick enough!

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday is on 27th November in 2020. The big follow-up, Cyber Monday, is just a few days later on 30th November. Expect another huge barrage of sales, with practically all major and minor retailers getting involved in the bargain bonanza.

While sales do occur throughout the year, some of the biggest or most expensive tech items receive their best discounts during this time as people look to secure Christmas presents or a new treat for themselves.

With the impact of the pandemic, though, this year could make for a slightly different Black Friday experience. We've already seen Amazon's own Prime Day event get delayed from July to at least October, but we don't expect the Black Friday sales to be pushed back. We just may not see the same volume of offers as we've usually come to expect - though that could be seen as a good thing!

Where to find the best Black Friday deals

Since it became more of a global event, practically every retailer now tries to find a way to get involved in the Black Friday sales. Whether it's the biggest retail giant or your local boutique store, you can expect to find them promoting some exclusive offers during the final weeks of November. So, with everyone apparently offering the best Black Friday deals out there, just how can you be sure you're getting a good saving?

Our best advice is to head into the week with an idea of what you already want to buy and how much it has cost in the months before Black Friday. Take the standard PS4, for example. Right now, you can get a PS4 in various bundles at Game for around £250, or a PS4 with Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, The Last of Us Remastered and Uncharted 4 for £255. Knowing that, you'll probably want to aim for a standard PlayStation 4 with at least one game for around the £200 mark to get a good value Black Friday PS4 deal.

With the low stock levels of the PS4 Pro, it's difficult to make a good suggestion there. However, you should take into account that a PS4 Pro with one game would usually set you back £350. With the PS5 or the way and the impetus to clear stock, we'd like to see a PS4 Pro offer in the region of £250 to make it feel really worthwhile, though it could go up to £300 max.

Whatever PS4 Black Friday offers we do see, though, you'll be able to find them all right here.
