Levine: "no need" to get BioShock movie made

Has to be "a good representation of the game".

Irrational Games chief Ken Levine has poured cold water on the on again off again BioShock movie after saying he has "no need" for it to be made.

"We got very close to having it get made - we had a deal in place and a director," Levine told IndustryGamers. "But for us there's no burning [desire] to have a movie made just to get it made."

Talk of putting Rapture on the big screen began back in 2008, with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski nearly getting a project off the ground. However, it ran into development hell due to budgetary concerns.

But in May Levine said he hadn't given up hope of getting the stalled BioShock movie off the ground, but admitted getting it right presented a huge challenge.

Now, it seems the BioShock movie has plenty of work to do before hitting the silver screen.

"For us and for Take-Two, it's really got to be something that will a) give the fans something that they want, and b) for those who don't know BioShock, really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game, and is it going to be a good representation of the game," Levine continued.

"There are differences between games and movies, no doubt, but the movie has to draw from the same DNA in terms of the world and the story beats," then reiterating: "But you know, we don't have a need to get it made."
