Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has just shown off a revealing new trailer for upcoming Wii adventure Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword at the Game Developers Conference - it's the first we've seen of the title since E3 last year.

And based on a detailed look at the trailer, we've been able to determine a number of new gameplay features.

Link's watercolour world is again populated by the usual series fare: giant spiders, skeletons and bloodthirsty lizard men. Alongside are new features designed specifically for the title's MotionPlus controls.

Controller-twisting key puzzles, finely-balanced tightrope walking and some Wii Sports Resort-inspired bamboo-chopping are set to utilise the Wii Remote upgrade.

Towards the end of the trailer a grumpy purple-blue fellow lies in wait. He's similar to the figure who appeared in the game's original teaser poster, shown way back at E3 2009 - a chap who was hinted to be a living embodiment of the series' iconic Master Sword.

Also present is the much-maligned HUD, which features an entire mock-up of the Wii Remote on the right-hand side of the screen. It's huge. A permanent feature in last year's E3 demo, the display features a mysterious icon of Mr. Master Sword, assigned to the d-pad's down button.

This suggests Link will call on the character like he called on the aid of Midna in Zelda: Twilight Princess.
