Uncharted 2 wins big at GDC
Scoops a record five awards.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Eurogamer's Game of 2009, has gone on to win a record five statuettes at the Game Developers Conference Awards.
Naughty Dog's sublime PS3 title scooped Game of the Year, Best Writing, Best Technology, Best Visual Arts and Best Audio.
Best Game Design was tipped to be another, but that went to Batman: Arkham Asylum on the night.
DS game Scribblenauts denied Uncharted 2 taking the Innovation Award, and also picked up Best Handheld Game.
Arty PSN game Flower was deemed Best Downloadable Game, and PC action-RPG Torchlight was considered the Best Debut Game.
Facebook's colossus Farmville was awarded Best New Social/Online Game.
The GDC Awards also honoured id Software mastermind John Carmack with a Lifetime Achievement and Gabe Newell with the Pioneer Award for his success at Valve.

That doesn't say so much about U2 as it says about MW2 though...

But, I have to say I am pleased it didn't get the Game Design award because, let's be honest, it wasn't exactly innovative was it? It was just a brilliant, perfect refinement of borrowed ideas.
Still need to pick up Scribblenauts.

I hope the next year will be nominees like Mass Effect 2 and GoW3 rather than what I guess will be an obvious choice in FFXIII.
What else does anyone think will make the nomination list next year, out or soon to be?

For some reason it was nominated in the Innovation category too - bit weird even as a big fan I would never have said that it was innovative. The ones it won are well deserved though.

considering its metacritic rating right now, i strongly doubt it will be nominated for anything outside of the graphics category. mass effect 2, heavy rain and god of war 3 are already strong bets for this year tho
oh and congrats to uncharted 2

It leaves me wondering if there was a shortage of innovative games this past 12 months and they just cobbled a list together only to pick the obvious game as winner.
That's not to say Uncharted 2 is a bad game, as it's more than worthy of any award, be it game of the year, game of the decade, best graphics, best story or whatever, just not a most innovative one...
