It's not free, though.

The downloadable add-on for Uncharted 2 revealed by Sony Japan last week has been confirmed for worldwide release, although it's not free as was originally reported.

It will, however, feature the skins based on characters from Sony stable-mates Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and InFamous for use in multiplayer that we saw in those screens.

The PlayStation Heroes Skin Pack will be released alongside a demo of the game in this week's PSN updated on Thursday, 28th January. It will cost $4.99 / Ł3.99 / €4.99, according to the PlayStation blog. It contains seven skins: good Cole, evil Cole and Zeke from inFamous, Sgt Nathan Hale or a Chimera Hybrid from Resistance, and a Helghast Trooper and Tomas Sevchenko from Killzone 2.

There's no word on the other updates mentioned by Sony Japan - reportedly maps and skins adapted from Uncharted 1 due on 25th February, and a co-op mode with new maps and skins on 15th April. Naughty Dog did say that some of the news was "inaccurate" when it was reported on Friday.

who are they kidding?

I paid Ł3.99 for super stardust portable this weekend... a whole game and a bloody good one at that.

Maybe if the skins were any good I would consider it but as it stands, 4 quid for some skins is a rip off.

Fuck this then, they weren't that hot when they were free but I'm not paying for something that doesn't really fit anyway.

Would there be a license fee involved in Naughty Dog using characters from games (which I think is a great idea) by other developers? Just a thought that might be why it's Ł3.99 and not, say, Ł1.99 or Ł2.99...

I'm no intellectual property expert, nor do I know the ins and outs of these studios' deals with Sony. But my guess would be that Sony, as publisher, owns all the IP rights to all these games, so there shouldn't be any licence fee involved.

That would be correct to the best of my knowledge to Oli, as publisher Sony could sort it all out and all ND need do it create the skins, and even that could be outsourced to a small time studio so that the various studios involved could continue working on actual content.

As for this DLC, haven't felt the need to buy skins for any game yet and this is no different, I'll be looking for that co-op mode in April but I'm pretty much done with Uncharted 2 if I'm honest.

DLC is getting ridiculous. People will by this though, and inevitably justify their decision to charge for it.

The only way to change the trend is to vote with your wallet (or not, in this case).

Fanboys will try to candy-coat what this is but we all know that it just laziness and money hungry companies trying to earn a small buck from the small minority of players who will buy this. I knew we could never be done with the horse armor type of micro-transactions in games but it's really disappointing because it's usually the trashy games that rely on having such type of DLC. I'll probably get voted down for saying that but I don't care. I'd rather see something like more co-op campaigns or some more new multiplayer maps instead. Adding in skins with the maps would be much better instead.
