Titan busy fixing Fat Princess

"We have it largely addressed."

Developer Titan Studios is busy fixing Fat Princess, and working on ironing out Ice Mage abuse, difficulty joining games and rank and point balance issues.

That's according to Titan's blog, where you can find an email address made specially handle the "flood" of bug-reports, complaints, praise and suggestions.

Fat Princess launched here last Thursday and scored a a 6/10 from Eurogamer.

The multiplayer tactical game has also suffered from accusations of lag and connection problems.

Titan has "a fix in testing" that should single-out low-pinging servers when searching, and has already established tweaks to sooth connection issues.

"We have already tested this patch on our own client machines, and performance appears to be dramatically improved. We are working with Sony now to get the patch into the Sony testing process as soon as possible," said the developer.

"For those of you having trouble - thanks again for your patience. Fat Princess went through comprehensive testing with Sony in the US and Europe, and a beta, but these issues did not manifest until the game went live at scale. Rest assured, we’re working on it, and think we have it largely addressed."

Will they be fixing the price in line with the us too?

The patch is expected to greatly fix the connection woes and consequentely, the gameplay.

Would EG consider a quick re-review after this patch?

I can't understand all the WAAAAAAAAAAHMage bleating thats been going on.

Okay, Ice Mages score a lot of points, but if its encouraging people to exercise a little crowd control (after all, ice does fuck all damage) then it can only be a good thing.

Point whoring cocks most Ice Mages may be, but at least they're doing something useful. Even if they don't realise it.

Lets hope its a tweak and not a sledgehammer fix.

They could have just released the game when it was actually finished.

@CptSupermarket, "Will they be fixing the price in line with the us too?"

They have already "fixed" it by removing the US price from the UK Playstation Blog article.

    @SeesThroughAll

Why should their be a re-review? its not EG's fault this time that this game has its faults. Wii Tennis-gate was caused by the reviewer using his black market wii debug console not any bad programming.

Many amazing games have bad online play (the darkness) and yet still have good scores so what is the problem? if they game has a low score then I am fairly sure those 4 missing points were not just from the lag

    @ CptSupermarket i hope so

@stevetuck I think that if a developer jumps through the hoops to fix up problems with a game in this way then a re-review is fair. Sure, you could argue that the game shouldn`t have gone on sale, but there are plenty of bugs in other games that don`t get fixed, so I think credit should be given where it is due. There is also the issue that someone may not read the review immediately, and if they read it after the bugs have been patched then the review doesn`t actually fairly reflect what they may end up buying, and a sale could be lost for invalid reasons. I don`t think that it would necessarily be practical to re-review every game every time a bug patch is released, but if a bug patch is pushed out the door very soon after release and solves fundamental game breaking issues then I think that is somewhat different.

sounds like a big problem :)

Re-review? The game did not get a 6 because of the connection problems.

Wish this was coming out on 360.

Connection problems prevented me from joining matches with friends, from hosting any match and from joining matches with well coordinated players. With a decent connection, I should be able to join anybody from my friends list without a problem, host a match for anybody, including players from my friends list. With a solid connection, I would then also have the luxury of bailing out from matches where matters are too chaotic and join better organized ones.

I would say that overall, a better connection will benefit the experience greatly.

On a side note, EG has done re-reviews in the past without any conceivable reason (Remember that ridiculous Resistance re-review?)

As Dizzy said, the problems being fixed in this patch didn't seem to have much if anything to do with the reasons for the modest Eurogamer score. They were gameplay and design related.
  • DanWhitehead #14 3 years ago

I didn't actually have any connection problems while writing the review, so it didn't factor into the score at all, nor would it have done.

    Fair enough.

But lucky you, you must be the only one!

Seems strange that low ping wouldn't have been the priority anyway. Common sense, surely.
  • Hamflank #17 3 years ago

Awesome bit of marketing; release a buggy game, get crap reviews, then patch it.
  • interceptor #18 3 years ago

For a game that was so hyped, this is very disappointing
  • phatb0y #19 3 years ago

    @Eighthours

I don't know what criteria the search function uses (it seems very random) but either way the game would be much better with a browser. Theres no excuse for not including one in an online game nowadays.
  • elephant_stone #20 3 years ago

I think I have only managed to connect to an online game like, once....iv just stuck to hosting my own online games. At least then you can work on those trophies with bots in place. ;)
