SSBB discs causing problems in US
Nintendo repairing Wiis for free.
Nintendo of America is offering to repair Wiis free of charge if consumers in the US and Canada have problems playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
The hiccup is caused by the unit's lens becoming dirty. This prevents it from reading the rather fancy high-capacity double-layer discs the game is stored on.
"A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive," read a Nintendo-issued statement. "Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem. (Please do NOT attempt to clean the lens yourself, as you may damage the system.)"
Returning your disc to the shop will not solve the problem. Nintendo will cover all shipping and repair costs instead. Visit the official site for the order form.
Similar problems with the more sensitive format were reported in Japan when the game went on sale at the end of January. Tobacco and dust build up were blamed; ban smoking and dead skin the answer.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl has yet to be given a date for Europe, and currently lingers in Q2 2008.
The game goes on sale in the US today.

on a another note, the disc won't break the wii, it just won't load beyond a certain point. it doesn't physically do anything to the console.

360 owners get game patches. Wii owners get console patches.
Hoping my machine isnt fucked.
Still - i've needed 1 360 replacement since i've had it (red ring of death), if i need a wii replacement that'll be one-all.
But i just dont expect this from nintendo.. boo!
