Sony confirms UK date for Killzone 2

Hardware bundle on the way too.

Sony has finally confirmed Killzone 2 for a UK and Ireland release on 27th February. PAL regions will get the game two days earlier.

Retailers have stuck by the 27th February for some time, but Sony UK has been reluctant to confirm, despite nods from the American arm of the publisher.

The blockbuster shooter will also be packed inside a special 80GB PS3 bundle, which will cost GBP 299.99 and be available from launch.

That just leaves the whereabouts of a European demo to be clarified. The US, remember, has a special GameStop pre-order deal to play this from 2nd February, before everybody will be able to download the sampler a day before release on 26th February.

Killzone 2 remains one of the biggest and most anticipated games for PlayStation 3 ever. We've seen the Guerrilla-made shooter in various stages during development, and you can find our ever-changing thoughts on the Killzone 2 gamepage.

Our Killzone 2 review will arrive in the next few weeks.

they should have made it for the 360 so we could get AA and a decent online platform
  • The_Inquisitor #2 3 years ago

Why two days later then rest of the PAL territories I wonder?
  • jonbwfc #3 3 years ago

Isn't that just down to the day of the week? Games go on sale in the UK on a Friday which is why the 27th, do they normally go on sale in mainland Europe on a Wednesday or something?

@Benno - The game has Quincunx AA, and as for online? I'd rather play it on dedicated servers than P2P to be honest. Means there should be less lag.
  • myiagros #5 3 years ago

@Benno - there is a long behind the scenes video doing the rounds at the moment, in which they confirm that the game will have AA as well as numerous other post processing effects.

Infact i think the tech in their engine looks sublime. Hopefully the game will be equally as impressive.

They also discus some of the online stuff on the same video, where they claim to have the same visual quality in the multiplayer as in the single player.

    "The blockbuster shooter"

Let's not jump the gun, I predict 8\10
  • Garibaldi #7 3 years ago

Damn, console bundle still too expensive. Ah well, at least I'll have more games to choose from through waiting.
  • Rash' #8 3 years ago

myiagros, link to said vid would be greatly appreciated.

stepneg, there are plenty of 8/10 blockbusters. :p

The price cut that definitely isn't coming in March should help this along nicely.
  • myiagros #10 3 years ago

@Rash' - video of making of documentary now linked in my original post. It's in dutch but with English subtitiles.
  • texx #11 3 years ago

I can't see a price cut. The Yen is very strong and the £ is very weak, Im surprised that there isn't a price increase
  • Rash' #12 3 years ago

    myiagros, Thanking you, sir.

xXBrombeerXx, not many people recall Oni... :)

I meant to say, too, that I played some version or other of this at the Eurogamer Expo, and it was great. It had great feeling weapons and a great sense of weight in the character motion - and yes, this does make it less floaty-runny-gunny than many other shooters, as did KZ1.

The graphics were detailed and immersive, with well thought out damage indication, and Sony really did their product a service by having it fired up on giant Bravias.

About the only thing 'wrong' with it was that there was no scripted camera angle for some of the events - so while I was marvelling at, say, the amazing animation detail in an NPC kicking down a locked door, outside a raging tank battle with flying things going past and all sorts of explosions went unnoticed. I suppose with more than one playthrough I would know which way to look, but, as a player ordinarily demanding more freedom, I found myself almost missing the Gears 'Press Y to view interesting stuff' feature... press Triangle, of course, in this case.

Really impressed with it, though, and the grenades were ace.

    @xXBrombeerXx

    /sarcasm on

Yeah, look at Final Fantasy and Resistance...

    /sarcasm off

I think you did one of these "/humour off"; and forgot to turn it back on again :/

"Isn't that just down to the day of the week? Games go on sale in the UK on a Friday which is why the 27th, do they normally go on sale in mainland Europe on a Wednesday or something?"

It used to always be Friday here in Denmark as well, but the last couple of years Thursday, and occasionally Wednesday, have been common release days as well.

"Ohh...everyone seems to have forgotten Killzone 1. It can't be, can it?"

Hope not, as it was a good FPS for those who can see beyond the stuttering graphics engine and occasionally absent AI. And judging from the latest previews, KZ2 will continue in its footsteps with a slower pace and emphasis on tactical play. I love that but the mainstream FPS player probably won't though they'll likely be too blinded by the graphics to notice...

/edit: can't put 'probably' twice in a single sentence.

I'm sure it'll be fantastic, but I'm all fps'ed out for the next decade, not even Bioshock 2 will win me back, i'll be playing electroplankton for the next decade

    review reactions:
anything up to and including 8/10 = OMG EPIC FAIL for Sony once again, Eurogamer is spot on ONCE AGAIN
9/10 = I guess its -good- but ONE game is not worth buying a PS3 for, review reads like a 7/8/10, I have no interest in FPS games so I must declare it in this comment thread
10/10 = SONY BIAS! / BRIBES / THEY WANT TO STIR UP CONTROVERSY FOR AD HITS!

so many of u are such 360 and wii fan boys its not even funny!
i was on the k2 beta and i have to say the game is bloody brilliant much better than killzone1 was!
so stfu u nah sayers your judging a game even though u havent played it!
  • tomnol #22 3 years ago

They (red. Eurogamer) definately give it at least 9 i predict. Production values are all over the place and blocking a mere 8 in the progress.

Who will care about the score other than Xbots?
  • Diomedes #23 3 years ago

Xbots have their lesson well learnt:

AAA game for the PS3-It doesnt matter we have a way bigger library one game doesnt justify buying the console
AAA game with online component-It doesnt matter Live is better we pay for it after all.
AAA game not perfect-Look!The AA isnt at the level of Gears of War 2!!I KNEW IT !PS3 SHIT!
Genius little game for the PS3-It sure sells like crap ...
Blu Ray player-I dont care about HD movies.
HOME-I dont care about social networking in the console.
Free online-Live is much better I am sure as I pay for it.PSN less lag??It must be a joke,I pay for Live and PSN is fucking free.
Multiplattform game-Theres always some fake video on gamersnyde ,gametrailers or xbot blogs to "prove" the 360 version runs better ...if not we can count with the fanboy face to face features of eurogamer to show us some advantages of the 360 versions no other mag has ever mentioned.
Sony exclusives-Microsoft must have tons of them its only that they announce the games some 20 days before releasing ha ha ..

Guess 360 blogs are doing their job ,specially in UK and US.
  • Xerx3s #24 3 years ago

"so many of u are such 360 and wii fan boys its not even funny!"
    Irony.

"i was on the k2 beta and i have to say the game is bloody brilliant much better than killzone1 was!"
Well, that wasn't hard considering KZ1 was utter shite.

"so stfu u nah sayers your judging a game even though u havent played it! "
You might want to reread the thread mate, nobody wrote anything of that kind. Paranoid schizophrenic much?
  • Xerx3s #25 3 years ago
