PS3 Store updated, Sony apologises

GT5 Prologue and friends emerge.

Sony has apologised for the problems with the PlayStation Store yesterday and updated it with all the bits we were expecting and a few more.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is now there in all its downloadable glory for GBP 24.99, along with a UEFA Euro 2008 demo, the Unreal Tournament 3 (free) and Turok map packs (GBP 1.99), and the Eye of Judgement "Bio Rebellion" card set (GBP 6.99).

Not only that, but PSone title Reel Fishing has been added (GBP 3.49) to both the PS3 and PSP stores.

Trailers on the PS3 Store include Everybody's Golf: World Tour, Eye of Judgement, GT5 Prologue, Dark Sector and Dynasty Warriors 6, although last night's GTA IV trailer is conspicuously absent. Oh well, you can get a high-definition version from the US Store instead.

"We would like to apologise for the lack of a PS Store refresh yesterday," Sony said.

"As previously mentioned, we unfortunately experienced some last minute technical difficulties and were unable to publish the new content as planned.

"However, we have been working hard to resolve these issues and are pleased to be able to let you know that [all of the above] is now live on the UK store."

So hopefully that's that. Phew. Why not relax and unwind with our Gran Turismo 5 Prologue PAL review.

Dropkick?
Of course not..
• Huddy #4 4 years ago

Spendid! Looks like the work experience boys at Sony HQ pulled through.
• Tomnd #5 4 years ago

Okay so this is £19.99 in Game on a printed disc with all the manufacturing costs but MORE expensive through digital distribution where costs like sales reps and packaging and transport don't apply. How does that work then?

Also its £17.98 at amazon where you still have the packaging but no sales reps.

@Tomnd

It's called theft by consent I believe
• mcwildcard #7 4 years ago

It's been pointed out to me that they had to stick to the RRP otherwise it might piss off the retailers.
Fair comment, although shitty for us consumers.

"No damage done."

lol

its okay, its not like SCEE hardly gives europeans slim pickings :)

Where's the Shivering Isles download then, Sony? Eh, eh? The US got it before Christmas and the GOTY Edition was released a month or so back so why isn't it available to download from the PSN Store yet? You can't use the excuse that it's being translated this time round because it's already out on disc!!!
• KreyAtiv #11 4 years ago

It's €39.99. I agree with Tomnd that seeing as there is no packaging to go with it or instruction booklet and what have you it should be cheaper through digital distrubution not more expensive. Probably better to get it on Blu-Ray than wait the 8 hours or more for the 2GB to download, and you get the videos with the Blu-Ray one too. :S

Because retail whine like bitches when you can d/l stuff for cheaper.
• Darren #13 4 years ago

@headbog - That's how I ended up getting the patch after two failed attempts at the loading screen stage.
• Darren #14 4 years ago

@Salvia - Doesn't bode well for the future of digital downloads does it if we're going to end up paying more for downloaded games than boxed ones! :?
• DonnieDarko333 #15 4 years ago

£25 is a stupid price! Surely it would be less to download? You might as well purchase the disc version!
• The_Inquisitor #16 4 years ago

I'd wager most people have, I have anyway (though will have to wait until Monday for the damn thing to arrive).
• ccfb #17 4 years ago

Between the inflated price and the day long delay, looks like Sony might have saved its bacon with the bricks and mortar brigade.
• mkreku #18 4 years ago

That's the point, Donniedarko. They're obliged to set the price so the retailers have an advantage. Sick, but that's business I guess.
• murphy245 #19 4 years ago

£25!!!!!!!! what a load of shit
• Weezer #20 4 years ago

£25 for half (and possibly more like a quarter) of a game? Are they having a laugh?

"Okay so this is £19.99 in Game on a printed disc with all the manufacturing costs but MORE expensive through digital distribution where costs like sales reps and packaging and transport don't apply. How does that work then? "

I bought it from GAME this morning and it was £24.99 though was expecting the PSN download version to be £19.99 .

Don't really get why people have such an issue with the price though. There's alot of content there. Personally £25 for 6 tracks (with reverse options) and 60 cars seems like a good deal compaired to £40 for the single environment you get Burnout Paradise.

I took the price from their site earlier so that could be an online price...
• jordan98 #23 4 years ago

Oh get over it. Same price, you choose which you prefer. If the next-gen of consoles do go media-free and purely downloadable only, do you really think they will discount the prices because there are less overheads? No.

Are Sony Europe idiots?

There is a new trailer out for what will probably be the biggest game to come out on any format this year and they haven't deemed it important enough to put on their store.

It's actually starting to look like Sony don't want GTA4 at all.
They refused an excusivity contract when it was offered.
They let MS get exclusive rights to the DLC.
Now they let MS get one over them again by not putting the new trailer on the PSN store.
MS put the trailer up on the UK marketplace last night.
As it's MS that obviously notices the importance of that game it looks like xbox will be the console of choice for GTA4
• Widge #25 4 years ago

RE: the cost for Prologue. How much was GT4p when it came out? Admittedly that is certainly a slim pickings game compared to this package.

I'm a bit trigger happy purchase when it comes to online games, but the £7 extra over the Amazon price means that I'm probably not getting this now. Not out of spite or anything stupid, mainly because I can restrain myself a bit more! I'll save my cash, finish the games I am on now, buy some other titles as they come out this year and wait for full fat GT5 instead.
• Yaster #26 4 years ago

Free maps for UT3, and 24 hours after their american release.

Lets see Activision top that :p
• zedzee #27 4 years ago

How big is the GT5P PSN download? Around 2GB, I heard...

Hmm, what does that make of the pathetic size of the HDD in PS3 models?

Well, I think we know the answer to that!
• GChris #28 4 years ago

"There is a new trailer out for what will probably be the biggest game to come out on any format this year and they haven't deemed it important enough to put on their store."

Well this store update was originally intended for ~6pm last night, which would have been before the GTAIV trailer was available AIUI.

Of course, they ended up doing the update later than planned, but presumably they were too busy trying to get yesterday's update out today to worry about adding anything to it. I expect we'll get it next week.

Since there are other sources for HD trailers I'm not too bothered, and TBH there seem like a good selection of trailers in this week's update. SCEE could perhaps do with being quicker to get trailers on PSN (or maybe even get a few exclusive trailers) but this is a minor complaint IMO.
• Moz #29 4 years ago

@Malacath You do know that the deal Sony went for was allow GT4 to go multiplat and get exclusive rights to R*s next game.
• Widge #30 4 years ago

What a bizarre comment.
Own a 40GB PS3, buy a bigger hard drive. Own a 20GB 360, buy a bigger hard drive. Everyone wins.
• Malacath #31 4 years ago

@Gchris and Moz

If the american PSN store could put the new trailer up then the european one could have done that as well.
But as usual the SCEE have only done a half assed job.
• Les #32 4 years ago

Idiots. It keeps surprising me how poor big corporations are organized. If only they could function without people...
• AOFanboi #33 4 years ago

They let MS get exclusive rights to the DLC.

No, Microsoft paid R* for some specific DLC for the 360 version. Sony chose not to take that route - yet anyway.

Not bad for a overpriced demo....huh?

The game is great and it will continually get updated.

The £25 argument is overplayed as the game as it is now will not be the end product.

£25 demo. Hmmm, no.
• WhyMeeeeee #38 4 years ago

anyone know why GT5 installs itself onto the ps3 hard drive?

download price should be 15 quid, no one is gonna download it, when amazon have it for 17.
• Rev.StuartCampbell #39 4 years ago

The disc version is £17.98 at Gamestation too. £25 for the inferior download version is a joke.
• JayeM #40 4 years ago

Bought Prologue in my local Woolworths for £20 yesterday. :)
