Ninja Gaiden PS3 DLC ambition

Hayashi pledges "amazing depth".

Not only are PlayStation 3 owners set to get the most complete and expansive version of Ninja Gaiden to date when Sigma launches this summer, but once they're done they can expect to download plenty of extras.

That's according to Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi, who told PlayStation.com forumites: "We'll be making an announcement regarding our plans for downloadable content soon. The content will have some amazing depth for a download!"

Hayashi can be confident there'll be a few of us around for that, if our impressions of the recent demo and discussions with Hayashi are anything to go by.

As well as upping the resolution to 1080p (we have a specific gallery for that, if you're curious) and upgrading models and textures to match the increased spectacle of Ryu Hayabusa's battle through the Vigoor Empire, Team Ninja has introduced Rachel as a playable character with additional missions, and believes it's improved the battle system considerably too.

Watch out for our review of Sigma, which launches in the US this month, in the weeks ahead.

Why is this amazing DLC not in the released game which will have a rrp of £50 as its a 3rd party title, is it free...
  • udat #3 5 years ago

Anyone else think those screenshots look a bit cack? Loads of jaggies...

Maybe not visible on a TV, but on my monitor they are readily apparent.
  • Darren #4 5 years ago

There are some noticeable jaggies in the NG Sigma demo but only on the floors, where I guess anti-aliasing isn't applied otherwise the visuals look fantastic, bar the minor tearing at 1080p. I've got this pre-ordered... it's out next Friday according to Gameplay.com.

My friend is actually buying a PS3 just for this title, even though he's already finished the Xbox version, the crazy, money wasting bastard.
I'm just hoping that NG2 is announced in some shape or form at E3.
Wonder what the DLC for this will be, if it's entire extra levels I can't see it being free.
  • 3william56 #6 5 years ago

Nah. It's a swimming level with really deep puddles.
Which are really, really hard to walk through.

"I'm just hoping that NG2 is announced in some shape or form at E3. "

    I have a feeling it'll be multi.

Notice generally that some PS3 games do have bit more obvious jaggies compared to other console? Not that this is to the level that is spoiling my game though.

Darren said there is some tearings in 1080p so meaning none in 720p? I can accept that and there is not stopping me getting NGS on PS3.
  • Darren #9 5 years ago

@GamesConnoisseur - I didn't notice any tearing at all when I played the demo at 720p on my old Sammy R41 HDTV which couldn't do 1080p. I've now got a new Sony one that does handle 1080p and when I tried it I noticed the tearing straight away at the start. It's not too bad, better than your average Xbox 360 game for example (what isn't?), but it's clear that sacrifices have had to be made to get the game running at 1920x1080@60 fps on the PS3. Still if the tearing becomes a problem, I'll just switch back to 720p!

Man, I’m so glad I’m not a graphics whore. Otherwise I’d probably die playing FF XII on my good old SDTV or wouldn’t be able to enjoy the great game that FF IV Advance is… ;)
  • GamesConnoisseur #11 5 years ago

Hey I am no graphic whore! .. Well yes when it come to HD and PC!

I do have a library of games on DS including FFIV and looking forward to FFVI and hey I was a spectrum owner with its famed colour clashes. The point is if you do have HDTV and you would want to play it to the full potential otherwise the next gen consoles are 'wasted' in my opinion.

Tearings do get up my nose, people playing X360/PS3 on SDTV do not notice them and hence why I asked if it is not as much of a problem at 720p for NGS (1080p would get the worse tearings logically). Yes have noticed few games are prone to tearings on X360 but other such as Gear of Wars which is very graphic intensive and yet do not have any tearings at all?!
So would think it perhaps sometime a case of lazy and not as careful programming.

I was on the fence about this, but I think the jubblies seal the deal. Tecmo know their jubblies.
  • foamy #13 5 years ago

    I'm so envious :<

    I want this in 360.
  • jonsaan #14 5 years ago

So that's bikini's for the female character right? :)
  • Les #15 5 years ago

Having just a SDTV I can’t comment on whether I’d be annoyed by tearing or not. I do know I don’t care about jaggies, fortunately, being a PS2 owner. I actually prefer them to the softness of anti-aliasing. Always turn that off on the PC, though maybe in motion it's not so disturbing.
  • JediMasterMalik #16 5 years ago

You prefer jaggies? Strange, never heard that before.
  • Les #17 5 years ago

When it comes to desktop graphics at least. I hate the soft fonts that anti-aliasing creates. Being a PS2 owner, I've probably never experienced anti-aliasing in games though. Maybe that's better.
  • Artemus #18 5 years ago

Seems it has been delayed a week. Now out on the 6th.
  • JediMasterMalik #19 5 years ago

No, would you like to start one? Go ahead, everyone else does :)
  • Darren #20 5 years ago

Artemus - "Seems it has been delayed a week. Now out on the 6th."

    Oh bugger, so it has.

Oh well, suits me fine really as I've The Darkness and Resi Evil 4 coming next week! :)
  • deepmenace #21 5 years ago

i've only played the ps3 demo but i thought a big loud "meh"

    anyone concur?

fairly relentless button bashing seemed to be the order of the day, was the demo a fair indication of the whole game or does it :

    a. get a lot more complex/involved?
    b. have an awesome storyline to pull you along?

being a ps3 owner i could really do with a new, top game so i'm tempted despite the demo. am i missing summat cause every review of the xb version seems to be drenched in praise.
  • JediMasterMalik #22 5 years ago

The enemies are so tough that button mashing will get you killed very quickly, if not, try hard mode.
  • DUFFKING #23 5 years ago

If you button bash Ninja Gaiden you will never finish it. Ever. You might survive the first few levels but then you'll just get raped. It more than pays to learn each weapons strengths and moves and learn to block/counter effectively. It's so much more fun to play tactically too, even if it is a requirement on later levels/all the way through harder difficulties.

I assume the demo is like the Xbox Demo too - you get a lot of levelled up weapons? If thats the case then there's no surprise it's easy - the levelled weapons do tons of damage against enemies on earlier levels, which is why they aren't available until later on.

I remember the Xbox Version had the true dragon sword (essentially level 4 dragon sword) on the first level for the demo, along with a fully upgraded dabilahro (lvl 3?) and vigoorian flails. You won't get stuff anywhere near that powerful until later on, don't worry.

Hope Sony fixes the new 'feature' of the PlayStation store before this DLC becomes available. Think zuljin mentioned it earlier this week that for some strange reason you no longer can pay the exact amount of the transaction but have to fill your 'wallet' in multiples of 5 euro.

Any company resorting to these kind of schemes to extort exta money from their customers deserves to be put out of business. I urge every PS3 owner to contact Sony and ask them to undo this ridiculous new 'feature'. Fucking thieves.
  • JediMasterMalik #25 5 years ago

You're not paying anything extra for the content, it has to do with the way you add money to your account to spend in the PS Store, not buying games. You can add £5, £10, £20 and some more.
  • Les #26 5 years ago

Yeah, I know Jedi. But as all goods on the store have a non-rounded price, there'll remain a balance in my wallet until I've bought my 99th item (which I don't see happening anytime soon). It's not about the amounts but it's the whole principle. It's just rubbish if in 2007 in an online store I can't pay the exact amount that an item costs. I know Sony's finances aren't that great but it's quite poor to resort to measures like this to improve working capital.
  • CHAZBIGPOTATO #27 5 years ago

I'm crap at games and I managed to get through ninja gaiden on the Xbox (original version) with jumping off walls and hitting the strong attack button, I never played the game that tactically and can't do half of the fancy moves in the game.
The boss battles were tough but not as much as everyone builds them up to be, (with the possible exeption of that evil chick with the hole through her torso) Heck, I even managed to kill the Dinosaur skeleton in the master ninja tournament difficulty with no health potions whatsoever and I'm shit at games..That will mean more to you later if you haven't played it yet.
