Out in Japan by the end of the year.

A new Monster Hunter PSP game will be released in Japan by the end of the year.

It's simply dubbed Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. Capcom's aim is very much to continue where the rip-roaringly successful (in the East) last instalment, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, left off. To that end, co-operative play will gain "new elements of communication" as well as extra layers of polish.

Also promised are an improved Felyne Comrade System plus, of course, new monsters to kill and regions to explore.

The official Monster Hunter Portable 3rd Japanese website has a trailer, but it loads faster for me on YouTube.

If you can transfer the Freedom Unite character save, and it's online enabled, I'll be there.

Saying that... Tri is out next month. Maybe there's zero point to this being released in Europe.

Yeah, but it's fiddly. Would be better if I had a PS3. But best if online play was built into the game.

While I'd like to get in on the celebrations, I have a mixed reaction: new Monster Hunter, new stuff, awesome. Still, I guess we're talking about and update to the same old formula, and I'd hoped the new one would introduce some of the changes that Tri did to the ecosystem (like, you know, you're fighting the elder dragon and stuff, and the small mobs instead of running away terrified gangs up on you. Haven't we endured that enough? ).

As usual, when the MH theme kicked in I got shivers.

Looks like you get to take 2 felynes on solo quests this time and I'm also pretty sure I saw one using a boomerang. Nice!

Expanded comrade roles and skills = win.

(Although for me this whole announcement is a win win win anyway)

I've just bought a PSP pretty much on impulse simply because the price is just about right now and there seems to be a rather awesome backlog of games for me to get stuck into. Really looking forward to it turning up.

The Monster Hunter games look right up my alley.
