MotorStorm update in June News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

15 May, 2007

A free content update for muddy PS3 marauder MotorStorm will be available to download on 7th June.

It'll add a new Time Attack mode that will let you set your best time on each course using any vehicle you choose. You'll then get a chance to try and beat your fastest time, which will appear as a "ghost" car on the course.

If you go dangerously fast and happen to make it round in one piece, your impressive "ghost" will be uploaded automatically to the PlayStation Network. Here other dirty dabblers will be able to download their record race and battle to beat it. There's even the opportunity to face-off against up-to seven other "ghosts" at one time - taking on the expert times of Evolution Studios if you get a little over confident.

Alongisde Time Attack is a whole host of fine-tuning and tweaks we had previously expected in May. The most significant of these is a change to the player ranking system. This will result in a complete reset of the scoreboards, so be prepared.

A full list of fixes can be found below:

  1. Game List Improvement - 'Game Status' is now displayed with the game list in the online lobby making it easier to find a session where you'll be able to join and race promptly.
  2. Host Identification - Within the game lobby the host is now clearly identified by a 'host' icon visible to all players and updated during host migration.
  3. Boost Exploit - A bug involving the boost system that allowed a player to use boost in an exploitative manner has been resolved.
  4. Buddy List Size - This has been updated to support up to 50 friends.
  5. Text Cut-off - When playing in standard definition all messages will now display as intended.
  6. Improved Stability Online - Online gameplay stability has been improved.
  7. Audio issues - All known issues with 5.1 / 7.1 surround have been fixed. Audio issues within the front-end have been resolved.
  8. Player Ranking - Players were found to be ranked incorrectly due to a bug. Because of this all online rankings will be reset and the ranking system should now function correctly. Evolution and Sony apologize for this measure but it will result in a fairer and more stable ranking system for all players.
  9. Auto-Start - Races will be forced to start after a fixed countdown which should dramatically reduce the waiting times in lobbies. Hosts may delay this countdown up to three times.
  10. Save Data Corruption - When quitting the game using the PS button it was possible to corrupt the save game data. This will no longer occur.
  11. Lobby Information - Upcoming track and current lap details will be displayed in lobbies.
  12. Vehicle Damage - When restarting a single player race during a death camera the damage wasn't always reset at the start of the next race. This has now been resolved.
  13. Missing Audio - Audio effects were missing from the death camera, these have now been reinstated.
  14. Name Tags - Added ability to switch the player name tags on / off during online races using a single button press (L1).

You'll be able to download it all for free from the PlayStation Store on 7th June.

There's still something missing, can't quite name it.

Oh yes.

More gamers needed over here.

I just found the game to be frustrating... In the later levels of the game the rubberbanding of the AI opponents is just stupid. You would drive the the track perfectly up untill the last point when you crash because of some weird random collision detection, and all your opponenets overtake you in a second... So you finish in last place... :(

I dont know maybe I just suck at the game...

Nah its not just you. The AI cheats MASSIVELY in this game, especially on the hardest levels. The closest thing I can compare it to for that is Mario Kart on the SNES. Nevertheless all the races are quite doable, you just need to resist the urge to smash your fist through the TV.

To be honest although at times its frustrating I did find the game to be really fun overall.

Shouldn't time trial come shipped with the game.

Then again it was rushed for launch i think.

But should that be a good enough excuse, hmmmm.....

It's sure a great looking game but I tried the demo... found the truck too slow to be controllable, and found the bike to be too fast to be controllable!

Maybe, like others, I just suck at it. Ah well.

Split screen would be nice though I doubt they'll do it for performance reasons.

The demo provided doesn't really present the game all that well in my opinion. The track and the vehicles provided aren't really fun. I found that the other vehicles and tracks in the full game are a lot more fun to play.

Rally cars are awesome, as are buggies, mud pluggers, and ATVs, don't like th Big Rigs or Bikes though.

No update to fix the annoying "wait 10 seconds to stream in each vehicle model" during vehicle selection then? :(

I don't think they'll ever fix that, it's a feature! :D

They should have just used pics rather then models, would have sped the game up so much.

Hang on a minute... this Time Trial update is UNLOCKED via a downloadable KEY?!? If that is correct then why on earth was it locked out of the retail version in the first place as that suggests that the code is already on the disc waiting to be UN-locked? I always found it odd why MotorStorm, excellent as it undoubtedly is, lacked basic racing modes that other similar games have had for years! :?

game is pretty good. the time trial should fixe it's only problem, which is pick-up-and-play races in which you can just choose which track and vehicle you want, unlike the ticket system.
