Miis will work in Guitar Hero 5 News

Wii Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

3 August, 2009

Activision has said that Miis, like Xbox Live Avatars, will be supported in Guitar Hero 5.

Support for PS3 Home Avatars, on the other hand, is unlikely.

"While there are no plans to have Home Avatars for the PS3 version, the US has confirmed that Wii owners will be able to rock out with their Miis in Mii Freestyle Mode," a spokesperson for the publisher told us.

The publisher went on to explain that Xbox Live Avatars will not retain in-game clothes and accessories when outside of Guitar Hero 5.

Guitar Hero 5 will be released on 18th September for PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. Head over to Eurogamer TV for a clip of the Xbox Live Avatars in action.

Let me take a wild guess... they will, however, be available for purchase on the Avatar Marketplace?

The best thing you can all do, regardless of how futile it may be, is not buy anything from the avatar marketplace. Microsoft have done tremendous things with the 360 and congratulations to them, but that only makes it more of a shame that they show their ugly side with trivialities like this.

If they're so confident people want these things, I'd like to see them introduce real money for payments rather than Microsoft points - specifically designed in amounts to make you buy more of everything, including the points themselves.

I agree that they are taking the piss with the 160MSP accessories, but TBH to get an "officially" produced outfit to look like a character from a game is a nice option. It costs less than a track on Rock Band or a premium theme... But I think all game related stuff should be unlockable with acheivements. The crap they're peddling that ISN'T game related just looks like the free stuff anyway.

insincere_dave I think people are - your comments since they are off topic in a Wii thread.

Spitting out your dummy because people give your comments negative karma is extremely undignified.

Would be nice if they explained why Home avatars are not supported, if its because Sony hasn't made an API to access them yet, or if something else is holding it back.

Probably to do with what the Activision head honcho said about the PS3.

NorUraeus: Is there even a home api? Isn't it just a game and not an actual integration into the core system like it is with the 360 and wii?

"Spitting out your dummy because people give your comments negative karma is extremely undignified. "

It's also extremely undignified to vote negatively over a perfectly valid point just because you don't like another system or something. The article made a comment about about the avatar integration, he made a comment about that which is most likely very close to the truth.

@jefranklin18: I honestly think that interview was more about trying to pressure Sony on a price cut in order to accelerate the growth of the market than anything real. Almost every 3rd party game maker have reported making good money on selling games to the PS3 market, so his comments didn't seem very credible.

@Xerx3s: I honestly don't know what kind of interaction with the outside world they allow with Home at this point. Apart from 3d trophies and game launching I haven't seen a lot of details of Sonys plans. But since the goal is to make it the premier way of accessing games going forward allowing for avatars to be used outside the game itself would be a natural extension of that I think.

I didn't vote down his original point, which seemed benign enough (if a little trollish).

But I did vote down the childish "Fucking corporate whore virgin losers!" hissy fit that followed it.

I never implicated that you would be as childish to vote a perfectly valid point. I merely made an observation that there are a lot of people on here that will pretty much vote negatively against anything that they don't like, no matter what the validity. That, imo, is very undignified.

When you're done with it, I'd like my brush back.

Well with respect then, you seem to be making a point that is entirely unconnected to my own. I shall take it as a compliment therefore that you chose my comment of all those here to randomly quote before you started expressing yourself :)

I certainly don't condone the Activision head's ill advised comments. Like most others, I do not know whether the Home API is accessible to game developers, and if it is not then that would be a fair enough reason for the non-inclusion. If however there is no technical reason for it and it is just excluding a segment of the market on some perverse principle, then he is bloody daft.

I have to assume the exclusion of the Home avatars (are they officially called Avatars?) is due to Sony not making them available, rather than a failure on GH's side.
If the 360 and Wii versions have the feature, then the game is designed with the accessability already integrated into the code. I can't fathom a reason for Activision to deliberately exclude them. And for the "activision is doing it because they hate Sony" nimrods . . . they are making a game to sell on the platform. If they deliberately gimp the software, then theoretically it will negatively impact sales, hurting Activision, not Sony. Even IF they truly hated Sony, that's "pants on head retarded".

I'm going to say something not very nice now about Guitar Hero programmers. If you are one of them, please accept my apologies beforehand and for your own good, don't read the next bit.

I think the Home avatars are just too much for GH5's rendering engine. It can't even manage (or be bothered to?) run in native 720p on the PS3, let alone render the complex stuff that Home allows you to do. I mean just look at my recent avatar version:

http://www.niwra.nl/tmp/giyo.jpg

Can you imagine something of that quality in a GH5 game? It would blow my mind! PS3 GH5 would have to be dialed back to 480p!

Enough bashing, still love your game folks! Still bought the full game with drums, and I love the studio, really happy to hear your investing more into that. Would love some more appealing downloadable content though when you have time. Never got round to buying Rockband, who don't exactly have a stellar record in Europe either on the PS3 ;).

Also, I can't unfortunately rule out that the Home folks never actually considered to offer SDK support for using Homatars in other games. ;)
