Xbox 360 version isn't real.

High Street retailer HMV has admitted a pre-order listing for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on the Xbox 360 was a mistake by its online admin team, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting.

The listing caused a stir over the weekend, with websites and forums assuming it was evidence that the anticipated PlayStation 3 title was no longer a Sony exclusive.

"In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking pre-orders for MGS4 on Xbox 360, when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform," admitted the retailer to GamesIndustry.biz

"We're sorry to have caused such a stir - the oversight has now been corrected."

Although Konami maintains that the latest title in the Metal Gear franchise is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, numerous reports and rumours - some from Konami employees themselves - have hinted that it may not remain on a single format in the future.

It could still turn out to be true though, who knows? One thing is certain though, if the game does come to the 360, it'll be on more than the 1 disc that HMV have listed!

I wanted to see Xbox gamers use the Sixaxis to guide Otacons Robot

If the game had to get on Xbox, It would use more than 3 discs - somewhat difficult for Metal Gear Solid (its like a free roaming stealth game).

The most believeable rumor I heard so far was that the seperate online game will be available on the 360 as well and the main game MGS4 stays PS3 exclusive. Actually they commented on that rumor as well in the latest 1up show (or the show one week before that, I don't know).

The original Metal Gear Solid for PSX had more than one disc. I'm sure they could do it again.

I don't really care either way though, I have a 360 and no intention to buy a PS3 (not even for the �280ish quid I could get one preowned where I work), but I wouldn't buy MGS4 anyway. I don't really think it would sell 360s (though it will be a PS3 system seller) as most people who want a 360 enough for one game have probably bought one already (same with Halo 3, it'll be massive but I'm not sure it will sell the same number of consoles as Gears of War did last Xmas).

After seeing that in game video a couple of weeks back, y'know the one with the floor humping, corpse humping, and statue molesting, Sony can by all means keep MGS4 as an exclusive to their console, because to me, it looked fooking dire.

Unreal is coming to 360, just a bit later. I lost interest in MGS, seems less gameplay and more FMV. Splinter Cell is my choice for stealth games, with less FMV and more gameplay.

UT is coming to the 360. It is exclusive to the PS3 for the first year only - but since it comes out in November or so that's a bit pointless since it will only be exclusive for a month or so - at least technically since I don't think that the 360 version already has a release date, does it?
