MGO Meme Expansion gets date, price News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

17 November, 2008

Konami will be releasing the Meme Expansion for Metal Gear Online on 25th November.

Pre-orders can be placed for EUR 7.99 from 18th November, when there will also be a EUR 12.99 bundle pack containing both the Gene and Meme expansions. GBP prices are yet to be revealed.

The Meme Expansion adds a couple of special characters to the game: Liquid Ocelot with his fancy targeting manipulation skills, and Mei Ling who can transfix enemies, apparently - maybe she has eyes like the scary man on that Lynx advert.

There are three new maps, too: the industrial Silo Sunset, the leafy Forest Firefight, and the snowy Winter Warehouse.

A No Headshot rule tweak is also on the way, as are Stealth Death Match fights and an Interval mode, which lets players chat and practice and not adversely affect their stats.

And to top this off, Konami has set up a Tournament lobby to organise battles for points, which can then be spend on new "humorous" character costumes such as a Crocodile Cap or an afro.

The Gene Expansion was released back in July, but had all sorts of server problems as a result of heavy internet demand for the add-on.

When compared to the likes of Warhawk, this is too expensive for the addon.
I believe Sony control Playstation Network prices, are these available over the Konami store rather than PSN? I mean I know they have their ridiculous control freak ID system... I can imagine them wanting to put some crazy prices in rather than having Sony say its X price for them.

It goes through Konami themselves, they bypass the PSN store altogether i.e you have to input your CC details for another service, while I had my fun with the last expansion pack I only bought it for the Survival weekends which was worth it, nice try but not this time time Konami.

Might I add that all three maps in the last expansion were themselves a piece of pooh, they weren't very fun in that 2/3 of them felt kind of imbalanced.

Ah, no surprises on the price then... and no surprises they went through the entire alienating routine with getting MGO online. They want to charge over the odds because they reckon they can. If this had gone via PSN it would be half the price. Plus half the hassle playing the game.

I would give the game another go if I could remember the correct combination of my user IDs / usernames.

lol Vistrix, me too. And try emailing Konami for help on that subject - they don't want to know. That's why I won't touch either add-on with a bargepole. If they want our money they should fix the long list of glitches, run the game on servers they didn't buy at a Pound Shop and make the game less of a hassle to sign up to.

This game could be quite good, but Konami's online system is terrible. I bet the servers are dead nowadays.

Oh so true. Their online system is also the reason I'm not buying the new PES. I guess they will learn one day, or go tits up.

they said they have 1m MGO users.

they could easily got double that if it werent for all their bullshit. actually really liked MGO but not prepared to buy through their stupid system. had enough bother registering the fucker online. purchasing on PSN is a one button click and its done, no need to add funds or anything.

Yes the system for buying this stuff is annoyingly stupid. But I love this game, and will be getting the add-on regardless. So much fun.
