Konami signs Ninety-Nine Nights 2? News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

2 September, 2009

Microsoft has announced Konami as the publisher of Xbox 360 exclusive Ninety-Nine Nights 2.

The deed was done at Tokyo's Xbox 360 Media Briefing 2009, which finished just hours ago. Konami's European arm, however, had "no comment" to make about the news.

Ninety-Nine Nights 2 was announced - as most things are - by Japanese magazine Famitsu, and is reckoned to be arriving there before the end of the year.

So far, all we know is Mizuguchi's Q Entertainment is involved, although the bulk of development will be handled by Feelplus, Microsoft Game Studios' Japanese outfit.

The original Ninety-Nine Nights was a launch title for Xbox 360, and offered a Dynasty Warriors-like romp where super-powered heroes smashed through hordes of baddies to boost combo scores and unleash devastating powers.

Head over to our Ninety-Nine Nights review to find out more.

Wasn't NNN received pretty badly? Is there anyone who wants a sequel to that?

How about some mid-mission save points this time, eh?

N3 was a launch title in the same way that it was excellent - i.e.: not at all.

I quite enjoyed it, the gameplay became repetitive quite quickly so I didn't bother finishing the game with all the characters to get all the different endings. It was fairly diverting for a while but like Bloodkult said, some checkpoints would be nice. The sight of huge armies of characters all rendered in hi-def was quite a sight back when the 360 launched. I don't know how well it's aged since then.

There are actually many people who enjoyed it, despite its deficiencies.

Looking forward to seeing more of it at TGS.

It's probably the same type of deal they had with Square Enix over Infinite Undiscovery, Konami's name brings recognition to the Japanese audience.

As for the alleged slim pickings of Xbox 360 exclusives, I hope no one takes that ridiculous bait.

glad to hear a sequel is coming. I quite enjoyed the original. I can imagine why ppl disliked it, repetitive and pretty annoying at points (no save points mid-mission never helps). But i liked it.

and yes, i also liked Dynasty Warriors:-)

Joy. Hopefully the sequel will receive more acceptance testing than the first apparently received - i.e. they will do some acceptance testing. We can only hope.

Heh, heh, yes, why not, but mowing the lawn is something you gotta do now and then during the summer months, and if you get into the zone while doing it, it can be a quite meditative, zen-like experience!

Lawnmower Man anyone?

I could get into the zone mowing baddies in NNN1 as well, individual units ceased to exist, the battle raged and flowed like waves upon a sea of soon to be corpses, and from the east a wind beckoned my...

Don't be harsh... Back then N3 was actually fun and to think i DONT like games of the kind to go pay for andyet I got it, I finished it and not just that, my buddy was SO expecting it to come out and me to go buy it and he kept gettin on my nerves. I get out of work, I get the game, he was waiting with about 5 packs of smokes ( to kiss my ass ) and a couple of Cokes and next thing i know i was waking up the day after, he was still playing N3.. It was him sucked into the huge TV, sitting RIGHT infront of it, eyes red and skin all pale white telling me first thing when i woke up "Dude... I have one char left to unlock, I OWN this game" and he was SO fucking into it. I liked it but not like that. He only left a while latere cause he was late for work..

Anyhow, who is to say that a sequel would turn out bad? One way or the other it will be better so younever know if it will be SO much better that it will be a great release actually. We shall see, even if Im not a fan of the genre :)

This needs some coop play and I'm all for it. It was a bit of a let down that the first one was a solo experience after getting a taste of some Dynasty Warriors coop at a friend's place earlier.

Absolutely, and not many people understand that better than Jeff Minter. Hover Bovver was one of my favorite games when I was a kid.
