Japanese sales surge

Nintendo leads pack.

Nintendo has lead a boost in all hardware sales across Japan, according to the latest figures from Media Create.

Games like Gundam, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Mario and Housekeeping Diary helped the DS continue its retail rampage – totting up 153,834 units shifted for the week.

Wii sales were also up on last week at 73,938, thanks to best sellers Mario Party 8, Wii Sports and Wii Play. Launch titles. Scoff.

The PSP had no game chart success, but pulled in at third with 33,715 units shifted, followed by steroid-enhanced machine PS3 at 21,231 – thanks to strong sales from Everybody's Golf 5.

Proving age is no barrier was the PS2 just below its siblings with 15,240, obviously gaining a boost from Japanese PES game J-League Winning Eleven 2007's selling power, followed by the regional struggler Xbox 360 at just 2445.

The GBA family made up 654 sales, and the GameCube managed 145.

The full Japanese chart can be found below:

  1. Mario Party 8 (Wii)
  2. SD Gundam: G Generation Cross Drive (DS)
  3. Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber (DS)
  4. Wii Sports (Wii)

    omg... poor old 360
is it worth selling out in Japan, why not concentrate on the west
  • Dizzy #3 5 years ago

Nintendo owns Japan. 360 and PS3 better just pack up and let the Wii clean up.

    >time to buy Ninty before Ballmer shuts the games department

I am sure Billy is happy with the latest NPD figures in NA ;)

    "Housekeeping Diary"

Fucking hell, let's hope this isn't the future of gaming.

On the 360 topic. Screw Japan. Even Japanese devs see that the real money's in the West.

Just so we can keep an EG thread clean for once, i'll get the usual ranting out of the way.

    LOL WII HAS NO GAMES.
    LOL WII IS FOR KIDS.
LOL WII IS A TOY NOT A CONSOLE.
    LOL GIMMICK.

Okay, I think that's it. No need for anymore now, right?
  • FaceOmeter #8 5 years ago

F*K U katsumoto, what are you, like, a 360 bwoy? OOOH I BET YOU LOVE DRINKING DOWN THOSE SLIGHTLY MORE EXPENSIVE PC GAMES

    yeahhhh suck that

it's not a gimmick it's actually the new jesus?
  • Katsumoto #9 5 years ago

    oh I forgot one

LOL NINTENDO THINKS GAMES SHOULD BE FUN, FUCKING SELLOUTS!
  • Splush #10 5 years ago

If I was writing articles about Japanese DS games I suppose I'd try to sneak a few fake ones in there. That's the only logical explanation for Housekeeping Diary.

"Here's the North American (NPD) figures for July (which included a spike in PS3 sales after their price drop). "

Looking at those figures, it's amazing people still speak about a console war... PS3 and 360 still can't beat the PS2... The world doesn't care about HD gaming, that's for sure.

Hmm I'm not sure I agree - the 360 and PS3 are much more expensive than the PS2 and they're not that far behind?

Am I right in thinking that EG can do a top 10 for Japan and the US, but still has to do that weird article thing for the UK charts rather than pay for the list?

Ms turning in the Fiat of the console world?

    "Microsoft to replace Xbox parts

Microsoft is issuing replacement parts for 230,000 control wheels for its Xbox video game console after users reported overheating and smoke from the units. "
  • Les #16 5 years ago

"They should have waited until consoles were powerful enough to do HD gaming properly (by that I mean 1080p, Supersampled AA, 60fps and no fucking tearing)"

    Exactly.

    My Housekeeping Diary (DS)

This is just getting plain silly now. What's next? My shopping list?
  • Waffleaber #18 5 years ago

"This is just getting plain silly now. What's next? My shopping list?"

For the love of God don't give them any ideas!

That housekeeping thing could be quite good if you can edit the tasks.

"well love if the diary says you've got to get me a beer and give me a blowjob..."
  • varsas #19 5 years ago

Given that almost everyone in Japan has a DS it makes sense that other applications are being made available for it. Isn't that what the PSP was meant to enable? I guess it's a replacement for a PDA in Japan.
  • Monkey-Wizard-Ken #20 5 years ago

The Japanese like weird games that occasionally make me smile.
  • Edward_Gamer #21 5 years ago

Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are doing SOOOOO POORLY in Japan!!!

The Wii is kicking PS3 and 360 butt in Japan!!!

The reason why the Xbox 360 is the leader is because of the big sales lead, and continually high sales of the Xbox 360 in North America, Europe, and the rest of the "Asian" market.
  • Edward_Gamer #22 5 years ago

I have to say that I agree with all the people who are saying that the Playstation 3 is going to have a very disappointing sales season this year...all over the world.

Look at this info I just obtained:

Warhawk ended up being a disappointment in the reviews.

Warhawk was rated only a 6.5 out of 10 by PSM magazine. Warhawk is called, "A third person shooter that never gets off the ground."

This is NOT a surprise, because Warhawk REQUIRES at least two people to play, and there is NO MODE where Bots can be used in the place of people!!! THAT SUCKS!!!

In Warhawk, the final version of the game ended up where machine guns from people on the ground can actually shoot down the Warhawk... That SUCKS!!! And men on the ground with rocket launchers can shoot the Warhawk out of the sky in one shot... That SUCKS!!! That is why Warhawk is rated so poorly.

That's still better than Lair. Lair only got a rating of 5 out of 10 from PSM, and only 5.5 out of 10 from EGM.

Heavenly Sword is another game that is receiving very "Mixed Reviews."

Heavenly Sword received a rating of only 6 out of 10 from Edge.

Heavenly Sword received a rating of 7 out of 10 IGN, and other 7 out of 10 from IGN UK.

The 6 out of 10 from Edge is a REALLY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT for Heavenly Sword.
  • MasterGrief #23 5 years ago

    @ Edward_Gamer

Warhawk 8/10 - Edge (the same score they gave Bioshock) :)

    Heavenly Sword 4.5/5 - Gamepro = 90 %

I went to buy a hi-def tv on the weekend.

After looking at a load and asking lots of questions, it seems that the technology in the tv's isnt actually properly there yet either.

for example, i looked at on 1080p tv, but then found out it had a 720p input.

All the hi-def lcd screens look shockingly bad when playing "low-def" tv on them (but yet my lcd computer monitor handles downloaded tv mpegs which look pretty much the same as the original broadcast - despite playing in hi-def).

Out of the 2 tv's i almost bought, i asked for a computer to be plugged into them both to see if it could work as a monitor too.. Looked shite.

ALL the plasmas/lcd's i looked at had fucking awful colour reproduction.

Left shop, decided to wait a year for the technology to get good before i upgrade.

    PS3 can wait...

Smelly : Where do you live, Kongo?

I bought a HD tv a year ago and it gives fantastic quality picture both from my PS3 and when I connect a PC.

Some problems are there sure, the LCD I have problems with giving pure black colour, and it only gives me 1080i sadly..

I assume you get MUCH better LCDs/Plasmas nowadays!
