Jackson pulled from Plants vs. Zombies
"Dancing Zombie" retired after complaint.
PopCap has decided to bin the Michael Jackson-inspired enemy in Plants vs. Zombies after the late singer's estate got in touch about it.
"The Estate of Michael Jackson objected to our use of the 'dancing zombie' in Plants vs. Zombies based on its view that the zombie too closely resembled Michael Jackson," PopCap told MTV.
"After receiving this objection, PopCap made a business decision to retire the original 'dancing zombie' and replace it with a different 'dancing zombie' character for future builds of Plants vs. Zombies on all platforms. The phase-out and replacement process is underway."
Plants vs. Zombies is a lovely little tower defence and real-time strategy hybrid that sees players rebuffing the advances of the undead - including the aforementioned dancing zombie Jacko - using a range of friendly killer plant life.
We loved it to death on the PC, for which it was released just under two months prior to Jackson's demise, and of course on the iPhone. An Xbox Live Arcade version is in production.

TBH, we all know that MJ was a gamer, and an ardent one at that. If it were me, i can think of no better way to be immortalised than in game form. Even if the game characters are only loosely based on me or my past deeds...
Edit: Spelling fail!

Presto - Jackson homage preserved, just out of reach of the lawyers.

It's nothing sinister, just an homage to the Thriller video. I'm sure MJ (would have) loved the fact that he was 'in' the game.

Nothing to do with being a child star in the Jackson 5?

Damn, I knew I had to be more specific but was to lazy to to type : made help him become even more famous then he already was. Now I'm tired.
It's still his best know work though. So still don't see why a company would even go there. just lame.

However, a "different character" could be just the excuse I need to buy this game again on XBLA

... You know, even now, a year after his death - it's too tempting to make a joke when i read something like that...

The red & black dancing zombie is an obvious homage to Michael Jackson, but it was not and is not a major selling point of the game. Therefore, it's ridiculous to have MJs estate cry foul.
If it was "The MJ Zombie Game" then I could undestand. But this is stupid.

It's a homage, not ridicule, there's a difference.

Still, I think the more newsworthy story here should be that Popcrap have broken the iPhone version of Plants vs Zombies with their latest patch and have so far yet to fix it. It won't even load at present.
