GH5 supports Xbox Live Avatars

Deck them out in thumping threads.

Activision has revealed that Guitar Hero 5 will support Xbox Live Avatars as playable characters.

And so they don't look out of place, Avatars can be decked out in Guitar Hero clothing and accessories in Create-A-Rocker mode. Whether they can keep those clothes on outside of the game we do not know.

A video of Xbox Live Avatars in Guitar Hero 5 is now showing on Eurogamer TV.

Guitar Hero 5 will be released on 18th September for PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. Check out our gamepage below for impressions, a full track listing and plenty of videos and screenshots.

Now add Natal and shake. Watch the casuals stream in like bees. Do it!

This is a serious selling point I reckon... many people I know would love this in GH games.

Now add a useful feature like SONG TRANSFER!

Avatar integration does look well implemented though

Hmmm doubt they'll be allowed to have as wide a range of clothes as GH:WT and allow avatars to retain all of them outside the game... It'd add healthy (but probably unwanted) competition to Microsoft's expensive "fashion" lines for the avatars. Being on the preview program I find the game clothes are quite nice ifyou're a fan, but the Steampunk and Recessionista ones don't seem different or "special" enough to warrant 300 MSP per full outfit... I saw one blazer and one pair of glasses that were virtually indistinguishable from the free ones! If MS want to sell these avatar clothes they can't have GH5 letting you unlock the full wardrobe of rocking clothes... Can they?

Personally I think game related clothes and accessories should ALL be unlockables, not paid for. Monkey Island set is teriffic but pricey.

Excellent - now at least I can have my Jarvis Cocker & Michael Jackson avatars do something other than camp dancing in 1 vs 100.

    "Now add Natal..."

No way dude, GH games are all about precision - Natal just isn't going to come anywhere near a proper controller when it comes to split-second timing and perfect positioning.

No Natal to animate your Avatar... not as a replacement for the guitar.

Then people really have an interactive rock-band. Seriously... this could be THE killer app for Natal. I hope Activision is listening.

    Wow, awesome idea.

    God that looks awful.

Personally, I like my avatar a lot and being able to use them in more games like this is great.
No plans on buying it still though.

I predict lots of YouTubes featuring four Spartans rocking out tunes.

Using Natal to register your insane kicks and knee slides would rock. I do like the idea of avatars in Guitar Hero, but I did notice that the guitar playing avatar always had the fixed grin which is a shame.

I dont see why i'd buy this if i already had any other guitar hero game?
  • VibratingDonkey #13 3 years ago

smelly: Well I haven't bought a Guitar Hero since number 3. I imagine after five(?) iterations enough must have changed to justify a purchase. But to make sure I'm getting Rock Band 2 instead.

Kudos to Neversoft for this idea though, it's neat, but hardly a selling point.

surely replacing the audience with other avatars rather than leaving them as stock would of been better?
  • RobotRocker #15 3 years ago

Nice idea, but you start to get the feeling that Activision are trying to distract people from the actual gameplay. I'd imagine that with an engine already in place, they would have a quick turnaround. But they have show precious little of the actual game itself compared to The Beatles Rock Band.

Activision must be feeling scared of EA this season if they are undercutting TB:RB's release and trying to prevent Brutal Legend from being released.

Feel like I must be in the minority here, 'cos I think that looks utterly tragic.

Bring on the negative karma I guess.

P.s. I expected them to use the avatars as a basic model for posh looking Guitar Hero versions. I.e. duplicating the avatar contruction kit allowing them to create reinterpretations of your avatar, at a quality level such as we have seen in the SHirley Manson GH5 vid.

I didn't expect them to literally bung your balloon headed avatars straight on the stage.
