Get Bill's L4D hat in Team Fortress 2 News

PC News by Tom Bramwell

3 November, 2009

Valve has announced that if you pre-order Left 4 Dead 2 on PC you will gain access to Bill's hat in Team Fortress 2.

"For the first time in history, two separate Valve universes collide. That's right: it's a Left 4 Dead/Team Fortress crossover!" screams the official website. "This is not fan fiction! This is not a dream sequence! The characters from Team Fortress 2 will team up with Bill's hat from Left 4 Dead 1!

"And lest you think this is just some marketing gimmick, here's the intricate back-story justifying it: while conducting a science experiment on parallel dimensions, Bill's hat fell off a table into the Team Fortress universe."

Genius. As you can see from the image on the blog, the hat looks great whoever you play. "Is Bill's hat the tenth class? All will be revealed in time, but don't hold your breath."

In the meantime, if you pre-order - or have already - then next time you load up Team Fortress 2 you will have use of the hat.

Left 4 Dead 2 is due out for PC and Xbox 360 on 20th November (17th on Steam), and was proving popular at the Eurogamer Expo last week, where Valve's Chet Faliszek presented it live and presided over showfloor gameplay too. What a guy.

Normally I hate it when people come up with an absurd story to try to explain a bit of fan service when that's basically all it is. But the story for this one is excellent as it explains everything in a completely irrefutable way.

PC owners win, as the pre-order (Steam, participating retailers) demo goes live on 27th October, with open access following on 3rd November.

Xbox 360 picks up the baton from there, as Xbox Live Gold members can play from 3rd November, and Silver members from 10th November.

*checks watch*....any sign of the demo on xbl

If you happen to have used the left 4 dead pre order code you get from gamestation, you also get the hat without having to pre purchase.

@kangarootoo @keano

I pre-ordered for the demo (and the 10% discount) but Bill is the King, I'll hear naught said against him, sirrah!

@keano

No doubt you'll have to wait a week or two if you're not a gold subscriber.

I'm slightly worried by the fact that if I hadn't pre-ordered already this would have actually counted as a small reason to pre-order for me. I think I've officially become a Valve fanboy.
