Dead Rising 2: Case Zero dated

Prologue DLC here end of August.

Capcom has said that Dead Rising 2: Case Zero will be released on 31st August and exclusively on Xbox Live.

This will cost 400 Microsoft Points (£3.40/€4.80).

Case Zero serves as a prologue to Dead Rising 2, introducing main character Chuck Greene and some new gameplay elements. You'll pick-up the story two years after Dead Rising 1 and three years before Dead Rising 2, and find Chuck and daughter Katey trapped in the zombie-infested town of Still Creek.

You'll be able to duct tape weapons and objects together, just like in Dead Rising 2, and any "player levels", "prestige points" and "combo cards" earned will carry over into the full game.

Dead Rising 2 will be released on 1st October for Xbox 360 as well as PC and PS3.

Pre-release DLC? Wow, I find this such a good idea. Sure maybe it's merely a glorified demo, but what I hate about demos is that they are parts of the main game which you will have to repeat once you buy it.

    Bring it on Capcom.

Never played DR1 but i am tempted to get DR2 as there seems to be a LOT of love for the Dead Rising games...

Is it time for me to go a Zombie hunting..?

They're not exactly doing their best to try and get PC/PS3 owners on board, are they?

Capcom have beaten EA to charging for Demos. Haha

    @LiveForever - technically it's not a demo; it's a prologue. A demo is a slice of the full game.

The good: Stats carry over into DR2, Low price point, story progression leading into DR2

The bad: 20/25 minutes long depending where you read.

Wasn't the original Dead Rising demo 7 minutes or so? I'd have happily paid for that so even the price is no hardship really!

Hmmmm, I know I won't have time to play Dear Rising 2 but I might consider this. A paid for unique demo isn't a bad idea if indeed it has been well made and'll keep you busy for long enough. I'm not sure 25 mins is worth it at that price though.

If it has achievements and carries stuff over to the full game then I'm happy to pay that price.

Sounds good to me - at least prologue DLC is leading up to the full game, rather than a game being released and then being forced to purchase DLC in order to have the full game.

Still would probably prefer it to be all slapped together as a full game though. Maybe I'll wait for a "GOTY" edition.

So only on Xbox, and still no DR1 on PS3?

Fuck you Cappers, fuck you very much.

I much preferred Frank West in DR1 to the new guy in 2. Frank seemed like such an everyman whereas the new guy seems like such a cliche wannabe cool guy that games developers think we all want to secretly be like.

The version being shown at Comic con is only an unfinished version that last 20 minutes. Final version will be 2-3 hours to complete and 10 hours to max it out acording to Capcom.

Here come the sequel to one of my top 3 games of this gen... I'm bound to be disappointed by DR2, I guess, but I just hope this prologue will give me some reason to be excited about the game.

Capcom have beaten EA to charging for Demos. Haha

That award actually goes to Polyphony and GT5.

Looking forward to Case Zero and of course the game. Dead Rising was awesome!
  • alcides #15 2 years ago

Don't you just LOVE those paying demos?

I actually like the concept of pre-release DLC I just wish it wasn't as comically overpriced as all DLC. I'll grant them that early access makes it more appealing, even if it doesn't feel like better value.

Let me just make this clear for all the morons, ITS NOT A DEMO!!!!!
  • Darren #18 2 years ago

I'm disappointed that Case Zero is exclusive to the 360 as I have the PC version of Dead Rising 2 pre-ordered but there's nothing to stop me playing the prologue on the console I guess apart from not being able to carry stuff over to the main game. At least I'll be able to sample it so it's not all bad.

FWIW though i have seen footage of DR2(not case zero)and the graphics, although look good, don't look as good as 2006s Dead Rising 1..but i am sure the gameplay will still be as excellent and fun

Wow. So they basically took what was supposedly the game's intro/tutorial (let's not kid ourselves, this was developed as part of the full game) and sell it in advance of the game.

From a business perspective, that's brilliant. While saving the money to create a free demo, you can sell existing content in advance. It's like stealthily increasing the price of the boxed copy, but in an incredibly clever way.

From a gamer point or view, I find this deplorable. People pay for DLC because obviously it costs money to develop additional content after a game's budgeted dev cycle - but if this stuff is ready pre-release, than I'd expect to get it on my fully priced disc.
