Chunky Uncharted 2 patch this week News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

26 November, 2009

Naughty Dog plans to release a Thanksgiving update for Uncharted 2 this week featuring a new map, new character models and leaderboards.

Not content with that, it's also having a "double cash" weekend between 6pm GMT tomorrow and 7pm GMT on Monday, during which the money you get for multiplayer feats will be - you guessed it - doubled.

The new map is The Fort, and was inspired by the Fortress chapter of the original game. Naughty Dog has said to expect "a long rectangular map with wide open spaces and excellent flank routes". Apparently there's a shotgun in the centre of the map, and an RPG in a side room in the crypt.

As for the leaderboards, they show you competitive wins, co-op, kills and money on a global or friends-list basis.

And as you can see from the screenshot gallery showcasing all these changes, and the new map, those new character models as "Thanksgiving versions" of Drake and Lazarevic. They really do need to be seen to be believed.

I love the MP in this game... its perfect for a non MP person like me.
And the double cash thing will be much appreciated... I still have plenty of bonuses to unlock.

Good on Naughty Dog! This is the way downloadable content should be so soon after release date! A free bonus.

There's nothing worse then a few days later after a games release to find downloadable content up on Live/PSN for wedge of cash/points. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

Can't believe its free. Capcom charges for Resident Evil mp mode a week after release, Dragon Age Origins has 2 DLC packs available to buy on the release date of the game etc etc. Naughty Dog turns up with not only the best game of the year but then give away DLC!

/hat off to you Naughty Dog. I'm now officially a huge fan.

So I take it you didn't finish the single player and unlock 'Donut Drake' then....?

Meh, really not interested in multiplayer DLC. I wanna see an extra level to play through or a new game mode or different way of playing the single player game. Whatever - something that'll give more life to the SP part of the game. (Aside from actually playing through it again, which is fun enough)

I'm looking forward to this. I would've even paid for a new map.

Being more of a a casual and non-aggressive gamer (I admit, I own a Wii (collecting dust since 1864)) UC2 is the first time I took a stab at online multiplayer (I had read a lot about smack-talking aggressive kids) - and I like it. I worked my way up til level 22 (I have a day job, family and kids, you know) but have the feeling I can't progress any further.

So, here comes the question, what other MP games (besides golf, thank you) can a n00b like me enjoy? Should I wait for Bad Company 2?

[Sorry about the repost from a different News Item's comment section, but there I posted so late that nobody saw it. I hope the replies to this are also helping people like me.]

I enjoyed the multiplayer in U2, I really did, but it just hasn't grabbed me. Aside from a quick blast every now and then I can't see myself bothering too much. The main reason being that anyone with any kind of social life is put at an immediate disadvantage to those basement dwellers who'll get to level 50 in a weekend.

Oh noes, I appear to have attracted 3 of those basement dwellers as I'm currently sat at -3...

I never play online as I don't have time to be competitive - I've tried UFC and Pro Evo and get thrashed, never seem to be matched against anyone with a similar ability to my self. I've yet to finish the single player of UC2 but have read many positive comments regarding the multiplayer, will have to give it a whirl. Seems ideal for the more casual player.

Agree with Chubster, Donut Drake's already in the "starter version" of the game. Love that skin, btw, including the lowered voice sample pitch. I hope they lower (or raise :) Lazarevic's pitch as well.
