Castle Crashers set at 1200 MS Points

Developer will be at PAX and TGS.

The Behemoth has announced that Castle Crashers will cost 1200 Microsoft Points (GBP 10.20 / EUR 14.40) when it goes on Xbox Live Arcade on 27th August.

The developer also announced that it will have booths at the Penny Arcade Expo at the end of the month and the Tokyo Game Show in October. In case you want to punch them about it or anything.

Check out the latest dev-blog update for all the key details.

Castle Crashers, announced yonks ago, is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up featuring local and online play for up to four players.

If the videos and screenshots (check out the gamepage) are anything to go by, it should be sufficient to keep up XBLA's impressive August run, which has already delivered Braid and Bionic Commando Rearmed.

We also have high hopes for Galaga Legions, due out next Wednesday, 20th August, given that the team behind that has ties to office favourite Pac-Man Championship Edition.

Look out for our review of Galaga next week and Castle Crashers the week after.

    I hope this game is as good as it looks, I haven't played a good brawler in quite a while. I do hope however that the 1200 points trend doesn't continue for much longer just to make some games look better than others.
  • muscleblade #2 4 years ago

    I thouth this would cost atleast 1600 like penny arcade. Easily worth 1200 no question.

    Well i hope it does if it means the ramp up in quality that Braid and Castle Crashers easily is. Better quality for a little more money seems fair to me.

    Another 1200 point game? Are MS priming us for a price increase on all Live games?
  • muscleblade #5 4 years ago

    I think we can expect more 1200-1600 points games in the furure, but also overall better quality. Im sure Pirates vs ninjas will cost 1200 or more too and will probably be well worth the price too. It relases the wednesday after Castle Crashers btw.

    @MrED209

    Looks fantastic just like alien hominid everything is handdrawn. Wait and see this game will score very high among critics.
  • onyxbox #7 4 years ago

    look like a flash game to me. I never got on with Alien Hominid (XBLA) either it just didn't seem smooth/slick and i found it pretty frustrating too.

    Does anyone know when the new Galaga is out?

    I happily paid the 1200 for Braid. To be honest I don't think it's a wise decision by MS to 'pre-grade' titles by giving them an according price tag. I don't doubt that Castle Crashers may be easily worth the 1200 but eventually it will just split the games too much. It's not much of a difference but MS introduced that price point way too late.

    I do however agree that it's a good decision if that makes developers spend more time with XBLA titles and try to get the quality up. I understand that there aren't a lot of developers out there willing to dedicate an entire team for an XBLA title if they can't sell it for profit. Maybe the 800 points are too low to make developing titles worthwhile.

    1200, bastards. still gonna get it tho
  • LetsGo #10 4 years ago

    Well done everyone who are buying 1200 games....

    ...this is what you get, MORE 1200 GAMES.

    *claps*
  • bad09 #11 4 years ago

    / claps with LetsGo
  • Monkey_Puncher #12 4 years ago

    There's tons of content in this game so it easily worth 1200 points. It's only £10 guys, it's not exactly gonna force you to put out another mortgage. If this came out on DS or PSP it would be £25 and nobody would bat an eyelid, this could easily have come on a disk there's so much game there.
  • DanMW #13 4 years ago

    I think eventually 1200 will become the new 800, as long as the quaility is there (I'm looking at you Braid) I don't have a problem paying that price, I also hope they don't get too greedy (1600, 2000)

    20th.

    they wont be getting my 1200 pts for this. (But to be fair they wouldnt get 800 pts from me for this either - a scrolling beat em up... meh).
  • rob230 #15 4 years ago

    This game looks fapping awesome and 1200 is nuffink cos I is rich innit.
  • gingerlink #16 4 years ago

    and geometry wars 2...

    Why do arcade games make up the vast majoritory of good ones right now?
  • wellzy4eva #17 4 years ago

    I don't mind paying 1200 MS points if the game has replay action and with all the unlockable weapons and characters, it'll probably have as much replay value as Lego Star Wars.
  • muscleblade #18 4 years ago

    "this is what you get, MORE 1200 GAMES"

    And more 1200 games is what we want since it means higher production values and better games. Dont you understand this?

    If you can afford retail games you should be able to pay 1200 points for high quality xbla games or else you might aswell sell your consoles imo.
  • step #19 4 years ago

    Can you qualify how higher production values and a more expensive product as a result automatically means a better game, exactly?
  • muscleblade #20 4 years ago

    @step

    If higher production costs didnt result in better games why dont we all play low cost or free nes quality games all the time.

    Wake up man. Its a reason Xbla games are cheaper than retail games you know. For the value their in most cases better imo. But you cant say the original Soulcalibur would be worth the same price as SCIV right.
  • step #21 4 years ago

    So how do you explain all the shit games with high production values? Money does not guarantee quality, and you can still have amazingly good cheap and simple games.
  • muscleblade #22 4 years ago

    @step

    I couldnt agree more. But thats not the point. We need both kinds. And 1200 points IS cheap.

    I mean if people are willing to pay full price for games like Hellboy and Wall E we shouldnt be complaining about 1200 MS points for great games like Braid and Castle Crashers should we. And even if i think Pac man is worth 400 points, pac man Championship edition is ten times better and is a bargain at 800 points - see my point ?

    I'd join the chorus of "greedy MS omg!!" except I've been playing Braid the last couple of days and am amazed at how wonderful it is. Any game that makes me say "that's SO clever" multiple times is well worth 1200 points.

    Tesco are doing 2100 MSP for £13.97 btw: http://ww w.tesco.com/entertainment/produ... bit of a bargain and made Braid about £7. I've never been much of a fan of XBLA but I bought Braid and Geo Wars 2 yesterday, and am going to buy BC:Rearmed today! Will have enough points left for Castle Crashers when it's out as long as it gets decent reviews and I can organise some friends for a co-op session - I'm guessing that like other games of the genre it's meant to be enjoyed with friends!

    Sony don't seem to get people complaining about their "high" prices for some PSN games with retail production values, why do MS? I guess it's because the MSP system hides how much you pay so people see the number go up and think they're getting ripped off.

    @LetsGo: if my reward for buying Braid at 1200 MSP is a game of similar quality for the same price then I'll be very happy indeed.
  • hulahoops #25 4 years ago

    @ step

    Of course higher budgets and production values don't automatically mean better games. But if managed correctly there's a better chance of building a strong team. Talent is expensive.
  • andromeda #26 4 years ago

    someone care to explain what all the fuss is over this game..?
  • muscleblade #27 4 years ago

    @andromeda

    Castle Crashers have been in development for a couple of years know and has been the most anticipated Xbla title ever both by public and critics. In under two weeks you and everybody else will see why. Cant wait.
  • bad09 #28 4 years ago

    ".....and has been the most anticipated Xbla title ever both by public and critics...."

    / Looks at trailer

    Really? Wow......

    (own view, which may change with demo, before you all jump me!)
  • DanMW #29 4 years ago

    I'm on the same boat, of all the summer of arcade games, this is the one I am least looking forward to, I don't know why but it just doesn't grab me, I'll give the demo a try and see if it changes my mind.
  • the_dudefather #30 4 years ago

    like beat em ups, didn't like Alien homid

    demo will ahve to be convincing enough for purchase, given given that I have streets of rage 2, golden axe, diuble dragon and teenage mutant hero turtles on my XBLA list, there is a decent chance i'll get this
  • kinky_mong #31 4 years ago

    Still not quite sure what to make of this to be honest. IMO the only scrolling beat 'em up that actually had any depth to it that kept me replaying was Viewtiful Joe, but then again I haven't played that many in the last decade. In other words I'll try before I buy.
  • DAN.E.B #32 4 years ago

    i really think now would be a good time for capcom to do a final fight hd remix
    thats the side scrolling benchmark.

    @MrED209

    Wait and see. It will be great. Up there with Braid and Geo wars 2.
  • PedroTheLion #35 4 years ago

    Put it in a box for full price and i'd buy it in a heartbeat. At 1200 points this is the bargain of the century. Trust me on this, it's that good.
  • BillyBrush #36 4 years ago

    £10 isn't too much for a good new game, i just hope the difficulty isn't a bit arsey like Alien Hominid, i found it to be a bit cheap with the old deaths but maybe i just didn't have da skills

    however, should Moonstone the amiga game come out at 400/800, then this would suddenly look a bit pricey

    hopefully the demo is more than 5 mins long, whilst BC:Rearmed got an 8, all i experienced from the demo was a tiny bit of gameplay and some 'funny' dialogue about how i should buy the full game, it was a terrible demo imo and i don't really care how good it is, they wasted 20 mins of my precious precious time so i could download an advert telling me to buy it not a demo where i can see how good it is...

    whole level demo perlease..

    Couldn't agree more, all that demo showed me was the shoddy control system that should stay in the 80's and angered me with it's persistance in saying "Buy the full game!" No sale.
