Capcom confirms original cast for SFIV

Chun-Li, Blanka, E-Honda etc. return.

Capcom has confirmed to Eurogamer the original Street Fighter cast will be returning in the new game, suggesting we were a bit silly not to assume this from the get go.

Famitsu broke the news originally, hailing the return of Chun-Li, E-Honda, Guile, Dhalsim, Blanka and Zangief who, incidentally, looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

That's on top of Ryu and Ken and newcomer Crimson Viper, who producer Yoshinori Ono called "the cool beauty that the SF series lacks".

We should also look forward to the unveiling of a fresh face sometime soon, as promised on the Street Fighter IV blog.

An IGN translation of the Famitsu article also uncovered Saving Attacks that seem to hit back immediately after a block and catch your opponent with their pants down. This adds "critical spice" and an emphasis on offence, reckons Ono.

Those special counter things we've seen in screenshots were mentioned too, and apparently will be among the most super-flashy things in the game.

The European arm of the publisher plans to make its own announcement this Friday and promises assets and hugs.

Street Fighter IV will also be playable at an Arcade event in Japan on 15th February. Expect more information then.

So that means Vega and Sagat as well? Awesome.
Can't wait to see Dhalsim stretch his shit.

    C'mon bring in Akuma/Gouki!

Excellent...let's hope this means the return of Blanka's trademark "mash the button to go all electric" attack that kept me so amused as an enthusiastic but skilless eight-year-old.

What's with the Arnold Schwarzenegger obsession today? Almost every story mentions him!

He's not about to buy EG or something, is he?

So they've clearly learned something from the launch of SFIII, which had _no_ carryover characters until Second Impact and Third Strike, which were a nice balance.

But bringing them all back? That makes it Street Fighter II 2, tbh. Why couldn't they have brought back some of the more interesting/fun SFIII characters - Alex, Makoto, Yun/Yang, Elena, Dudley - or even the crazier ones like Q, Twelve, and Hugo? It's a bit sad they're more afraid of introducing new faces this time around, if the initial announcement is: "all the old characters are back!"

There will be new characters aswell. A new girl with pink hair has already been confirmed. Crimson Viper is her name btw.

Gah, way to make a surprisingly new thing feel absolutely dated before it's even out.

I hate this tail between the legs approach to change. SF3 Third Strike was fantastic, why dig up SF2 ****AGAIN****? :( !

Is my imagination or is a remake of street fighter 2?

Wow, Chun-Li's really been loading on the pies...also, Guile's looking a bit more effeminately demure than I might have expected. Given, y'know, that he's a US marine.
