Call of Duty 4 patch details
Playlist changes, fixes.
Infinity Ward has detailed changes expected in the upcoming patch for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on Xbox 360.
The update on community relations director Robert Bowling's blog adds that the playlist changes detailed will apply to the PS3 version as well, although that version will have "different patch changes".
Those playlist changes, then, will see Showdown added to the Team Deathmatch, Free-For-All, Sabotage, Search and Destroy, Hardcore TDM, Hardcore S&D and Old School rotations, while Mercenary TDM will be opened up to people who don't want to be match-made with clans or parties.
There are also other maps added to various rotations, score limit changes and a few other gameplay tweaks, but more than we clearly thought when we started doing this list so we're going to give up and advise you to browse through the changes yourselves.
The 360 patch is listed as due out this month.
Call of Duty 4 launched on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and DS earlier this year to much critical acclaim. Even the DS version is quite good.

If you want friendly fire you can always try Hardcore. Though do please switch out martyrdom before you do.

The three on three is team tactical. Team objective was a personal favorite of mine as I like it being mixed up. It was a least popular playlist though, so tricky to get a game sometimes. This also meant you could fashion a way of getting a full ranked friends server

Stick to the more tactical game types and its generally very enjoyable. I do tend to play at times when there are more europeans than americans though, might help, might be nothing. I've only had to use mute a couple of times for real idiots.

Also, the host migration addition does'nt really seem to change anything. At the moment when the host leaves the game ends, and I have to search for another game. With this change, the game will end, and another game will begin with a different host. It does'nt change the fact that the game ends, a new game has to be started and everyone suffers a loss.
Plus, I wish they would get rid of that damn Last Stand Perk. You kill someone fair and square in a fire fight, so why should they deserve another chance to take you down?
The Leaderboards could do with an overhaul too, at the moment the top players are just the people who have played the most games, which does'nt make them the best players at the game. In fact the number/military rank in this game gives no indication of the players actual skill (unlike Halo 3's ranking system).
Surely there is a way to rank players based on a different system which takes win ratio, kill ratio, amout of games won, etc all into account?
Other than these gripes the game is amazing online.

Leaderboards are done like this for a reason. Even the crap players will eventually progress giving them a reason to continue playing. Better players progress quicker. It's working too. Take a look at the size of the leaderboards. Just on the 360 over 1.5 million people have played this online and over 15% have played long enough to get to level 55. Those are some big stats.
Final point on bitching about perks. Live with it. Ever considered that the person chosing martyrdom or last stand have picked it over something else? They don;t just get the advantage above and beyond what you have - it is a choice. Given you know about the perks they are the easiest in the game to counter.

I'm not bitching about the perks, just pointing out that some perks unbalance the action. I also disagree that the leaderboards are better the way they currently are. The current system totally negates the point of a leaderboard in the first place (to compare your own skill to that of other players).
Your argument that continued ranking progress encourages players to keep playing is fair. Although Halo 3 marries both with no problem, your numbered rank rises and falls depending on performance, but your military rank continues to rise regardless (giving the impression of continous progression), COD4 should follow this same pattern, IMO.
