EA delivering Schafer's latest.

EA has announced that Brütal Legend will launch on PS3 and Xbox 360 on 16th October. The US gets the game on 13th October.

Brütal Legend is a third-person action romp from the revered but slightly bonkers brain of Tim Schafer: him who made Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, Psychonauts and everything else we've ever loved.

Brütal Legend follows the adventures of heavy metal roadie Eddie Riggs, who finds himself saving a fantasy land from peril by using his non-exhaustive knowledge of rock. Plus, he'll be voiced by funny-man and real-life rocker Jack Black.

"Wooo!" whooped Tim Schafer in statement. "Having an official release date is awesome! And how cool is it that EA threw down the dough to have the name of an entire month changed to Rocktober?"

His excitement isn't entirely vapid, as Brütal Legend was unceremoniously thrown overboard by Vivendi during the Activision merger in 2008 and left to sink or swim. EA eventually threw Schafer and developer Double Fine a line late last year.

What about a PC release? I pray daily for the announcement but it never comes... It's the only thing that gets me up in the morning, that tiny glimmer of hope that today could be the day. Why is there no PC release oh great Schafer why? WHY!?!?

cause that's not where the money is.

Because all console gamers rushed out and bought Psychonauts.

Last I heard, the little commercial gain Psychonauts had came mostly from Steam. Where it is still sold, while the console versions are long out of print.

I thought EA told us that after Mirror's Edge and Dead Space they have learned that it is unwise to launch new IP in the pre-holiday season.

I still have a hope that this game will be somehow playable using a Rock Band guitar as the input device. That would rock, in an extremely geeky way. I dont know how that would work, but it would be way cool.

Psychonauts didn't have EA's marketing and hype machine behind it. And while Steam may be an option, a regular PC release these days is inviting losses, just look at what happened to Demigod.

Not reallly. Its easily availaible through XBOX LIVE for 1200 points ( about 10£).

Got to love Schafer, he is totally barmy. I think day of the tenacle has to be one of the oddest concepts out there that actually works. Shame about not being on PC as iam planning on selling my 360 and going back into pc gaming which i left behind a while back.
