Bruckheimer working on two new games

Plus: POP movie is "Shakespearean".

Hollywood mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed he's still up for producing games - stating that in fact, he's got two in the works right now.

It's been over two years since Jerry Bruckheimer Games Studio was established, and since then there have been no further announcements.

But according to Bruckheimer, it's all kicking off. "We're in the process of getting two games off the ground," he told Gamasutra. "We've started developing them. We've got two really talented executives working on them."

He could well mean Halo 3 exec producer Jim Veevaert and former Ubisoft man Jay Cohen, who joined the studio last May.

Don't expect any game announcements in the next few weeks, however - Bruckheimer's busy promoting the new Prince of Persia movie, which hits cinemas next month. So what's it all about?

"It's kind of a Shakespearean story we tell about these three brothers," he said. "One grew up on the streets and gets adopted by the king because in those days, when you had sons, they were inclined to assassinate the father to become king.

"By having this kid who could never be king in the palace, he was always protected. If the father died, they'd throw him out. That's the kind of Shakespearean part of our story."

A new videogame instalment in the series, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, is due to arrive on 21st May. Check out the gamepage for all the business.

    Wait, slow down.

Bruckheimer knows about the existence of Shakespeare?

    I've been underestimating him.

Having beards and castles in it doesn't make it Shakepearean.

"We've got two really talented executives working on them."

Hahahahahhahahahahaha *wipes tear from eye* The executives are working on the game? Really? I mean, really really? They're not just there making random proposals based on what they saw their kid playing last night then getting angry and shouty when the designers suggest that it doesn't fit with the original vision for the product?

This is why I'm nervous about the Hollywood model being applied to our industry...

One thing of which we can be totally sure is that these Jerry Bruckheimer games will have absolutely no explosions in them.

I love that bit in Romeo and Juliet when Juliet wakes up and realises that Romeo has killed Paris and himself, and then pulls out a magical dagger* which she then uses to reverse time and undo the whole thing.

    * "O happy dagger.. OF TIME!"

How is PoP shakespearean? Does Bruckheimer even no who shakespeare was? Or is it just something that someone in PR told him to say? Anyone in tv/film who thinks about getting into games, dont. You dont know what you're doing!

I'd say that a monarch dependent on the adoption of a stranger to protect himself from his own heirs is actually Shakespearean compared to bruckheimers usual output, its kind of a shame that what will probably turn out to be the only interesting wrinkle in the entire plot has been given away so early though.

Still i've been ordered by my doctor to cut down on the cynicism (that stuff will kill you apparently) so fingers crossed and all that.

Very scary stuff. Will it actually be fun or not, that is the question.

I'm open to new things, but be careful where you tread, Bruckheimer and co. Visceral are also doing something with Shakespeare too.

I was going to write a witty retort to Bruckheimer's delusional diatribe, but I think it can be adroitly summed up in one word.

    Bollocks.

EDIT: And I got negged for that? Jeez, no pleasing some people. :/

I’ve always thought the only person who could compete with Shakespeare in the modern world, is Bruckheimer. The parallels of greatness are hard to ignore.
